The Writers

Michel Lauricella received his education at Paris’s École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (National School of Fine Arts). He has been teaching morphology for over twenty years, first at the Émile Cohl school in Lyons, then at the city of Paris’s Ateliers des Beaux-Arts, the Gobelins school in Paris, Lisaa in Paris, and the Atelier in Angoulême. He currently teaches at the Fabrica114 studio in Paris.

Great book to help illustrate folds and draping of fabric

I have many books on drAwing fabric folds. I have seen countless illustrations of the use of the cylinder to show how fabric falls, but this book goes beyond illustrating the7 types of folds. The book shows illustrations where the fabric is on humans and the humans are gesturing. The use of arrows and written commentary is priceless. The author uses a variety of clothing to illustrate the drape of fabric and how the weight of fabric influences the amount of drape. In this book, I was able to have illustrations of hats, casual clothes, and dress clothes with the human holding a phone, lifting their leg, in a runner starting position and more. This book should be called the Folds and creases on the dynamic figure. This book would be great for the next time I teach Fashion illustration. The two drawbacks to the book is it size and the light gray colored print. If this book could be made into 8×10 it would be perfect. This book is so modern in going over creases and folds.Highly recommended!!!!

Great information, but…

I was so excited to recieve this book yesterday because I want to better my understanding on how clothes fit on the human form. I have a copy of Morpho: Fat and Skin folds, and I always go back to it when I’m sketching plus-sized characters! However…I was surprised to see that I recieved a defective copy of the book. The spine was not glued down properly, and the last page is glued too far in the cover flap.

This review is by no means devaluing the information in this book. Instead, informing someone of the problem. I would still recommend this to any and all artists looking for digestible drawing resources.

Great content, terrible binding

As with all the other Morpho content, the content is very thorough and concise. My only issue (consistently) is as soon as you open the book the binding comes unloose.

The content is exceptional, so I just roll my eyes and keep the books. I have 4. I’d recommend them for the information, but be forewarned about the binding.

I have all the Morpho books – I am a huge fan! Though I’ve only thumbed through the book which I’m sure will be packed with knowledge I am furious at how it was delivered- bent. Its a BRAND NEW entry and it feels used. Shame on .

I love these books and this did not disappoint me. Please continue to publish content. I would love bigger book dimensions at least the dimensions of the anatomy book. But they do serve a purpose being small.

Great little addition to the Morpho series. Covers cloth, different fashion items, and ends with shoes. Great refresher and a kickstart to understanding clothes.

This is the best book i have seen so far that visually demonstrates how to drape fabric on the body. It shows how different materials will crease and fold as the body moves. Awesome book should def be in your collection.

I love this book. It’s got so many examples that it’s easy to follow the logic behind fabric folds. However when it arrived in the mail the cover came right off of the spine. The glue mustve been faulty. It’s also weirdly small for an art book. I only rate it so high because of the content.
