The Writers

Christopher Griffin (he/she/they pronouns) was born and raised in West Philadelphia, and is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, where they work in education and care for over 200 green gurls in their lil Brooklyn oasis of an apartment. Being an educator at heart, Christopher started their Instagram account (@plantkween) in 2016 as a way to share the many lessons, lush adventures, and simple joys that come with being a plant parent. Their social media presence has been rooted in a journey of self-care, joy sharing, and community building all through the wonders of those green little creatures we call plants. As a Black queer nonbinary femme, Christopher enjoys exploring creative and accessible ways to use plants as a vehicle to incite further conversations centering on Black joy and resilience, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and the need to increase the visibility, representation, and empowerment of QTPOC (Queer and Trans People of Color) in the lush world of horticulture. Their aspirations are to continue to serve lush lewks and new growth realness right along-side their green gurls, have fun with it all, and bring folks along for the wild botanical ride.

Perfection in every way

I am only on the first few pages. This book arrived the day my grandmother passed as I held her hand, warm in her bed at our home. I couldn’t appreciate this book in that moment but set it on my bedside table knowing a time would come when I could. I would glance at it in passing, knowing within those pages would be comfort, from someone else who had a close relationship with their grandmother, one that inspired them to bloom from within, to love, and to DO the things that bring joy. I’ve always had an extra special connection with my grandmother and reading just a few pages made me stop and think of some of the incredible moments I had with my grandmother and great grandmother. Really looking forward to reading the rest, this book brought me some comfort today as I go through one of the hardest times I’ve ever lived through. And I couldn’t be more grateful. The timing on this book was just ….. pure magic. Thank you, Christopher, for sharing your stories and your light, and your wisdoms.

PS I hope to wallpaper my home in the print on the inside of the covers. Just gorgeous!

Even Better Than Expected!

I was not expecting such a substantial book!! This book literally covers everything related to houseplants. It is beautifully illustrated, entertaining, and did I mention super informative! There is a personal feel that goes beyond merely reciting tips that you could Google online . This is by far my favorite houseplant plant book (and I have several). Clearly a lot of love and work went into the creation of this masterpiece.

I’m an experienced plant parent, and when I saw Christopher featured on a local news/entertainment show, I knew I had to support her. This book is written in her voice and hunty, I am shook! She gives amazing plant advice, and information about lighting, humidity, soil, and different plant species. The photos are beautifully styled and it’s so fun to get a glimpse into this kween’s indoor gardens. I’m only a quarter of a way through and I can’t put it down!

It’s full of stunning photos, helpful tips that are easy to understand and writing that lifts you up and fills you with joy. I can’t say enough good things about this book. I was so excited when Plant Kween announced this book and it certainly delivers.

This book is as beautiful and fabulous as it’s author. I’m new to indoor gardening and this book has all the information I needed. Bonus, it’s author is not only knowledgeable about plants but is a beautiful, evolved, lovely soul. She inspires her readers to look inward, find your inner joy and live your most authentic life. I absolutely love the book. Everything in the book from how Plant Kween came about to interesting facts about plants, care of plants and how to incorporate your plants when decorating your space big or small. This book is a real gem.

I was unfamiliar with the author’s internet presence, might have prepared me for this book. The admittedly useful advice and information about house plants was overwhelmed by all the people photos and other padding.
