Features of Introducing Economics A Graphic Guide PDF

A comic-book introduction to economics from David Orrell, the author of Economyths: 11 Ways Economics Gets it Wrong. With illustrations from Borin Van Loon. Part of the internationally-recognised Introducing Graphic Guide series.Introducing Economics A Graphic Guide PDF

Today, it seems, all things are measured by economists. The so-called ‘dismal science’ has never been more popular – or, given its failure to predict or prevent the recent financial crisis, more controversial.

But what are the findings of economics? Is it really a science? And how can it help our lives?

Introducing Economics traces the history of the subject from the ancient Greeks to the present day. Orrell and Van Loon bring to life the contributions of great economists – such as Adam Smith, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes and Milton Friedman – and delve into ideas from new areas such as ecological and complexity economics that are revolutionizing the field.

 Delightful historical introduction

January 31, 2020

My surprise was to find no bias regarding various schools, for example the Chicago School, the Vienna School. These are presented as philosophical additions to the history, nothing more sinister or overwhelming. This way of presenting the history of economics allowed me to set aside my biases and consider all contributors as part of the solution to a better understanding.

The clever graphics add a layer to the history of economics, giving this book much more information than you would think you would find in this slim volume. In fact, I found this book richer than another major introductory text, “The Worldly Philosophers” by Robert Heilbroner.

Many economists are named, with birth-death dates, sometimes with only a couple of sentences (and a graphic!). I used this book to quickly check Wikipedia for an expansion of the contribution, then I put authors and texts in my Wish List for follow up. This is a delightful read. I highly recommend it, not for skimming but for studying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy the kindle version

I owe a few books of this series in paper and they are great! I wanted to try the kindle version and it’s just bad. These books have a lot of illustration but in the kindle version the emphasis is on the text and the illustrations are Soo small you can’t read what’s on them.

I was expecting more about the mechanics of economics instead of the philosophy of ethics. It would be a good read for philosophy.

What I truly appreciate is that the History of Economics has truly enlighten me on how people gone through so much while implementing truthful Economics before, now, and the fateful future. This book shows the heroes and innovatively thoughtful economists in the past! I truly adore it!

The book follows no overarching structure or narrative. The economics is confused and so basic to be rendered nonsensical in parts. The illustrations are shockingly bad.
