The content is very basic. Nothing insightful. The practical examples were so simplistic,it was difficult to glean much that could be helpful in the real world, especially when dealing with emotionally manipulative people, or aggressive people. good general overview; slightly irritating writing style; also the case studies/scenarios came across as very “made up”, so much better to relate if it is a real story; ultimate irony of course if they were real stories and the re-writing of them ruined the story!

I’m a professional editor between gigs right now, so I’m reading a lot—and this book about the stock market surprised me by being one of the best reads in a long while!
My partner and I have been very involved with the stock market over the years, and I found this book to be very interesting and helpful. I’m not a numbers person so much (my partner is way more than I am), but I could easily follow the numbers and logic in this book. We’re very familiar with the Elliott Wave, etc. but this author introduces many new theories and ideas to consider. I also appreciate his humor here and there in what could otherwise be a very dry subject. It definitely needs a proofreader, however.
I’m mostly a word person myself (for obvious reasons, stated above), and a book about the stock market that discusses James Joyce is lifted to a much higher echelon, if you ask me. And the book is deeper and more philosophical than you might expect. It’s really great.

Interesting, somewhat frightening and quite challenging

I chose to read this book because I was fascinated by a part of its title: A Map of Humanity’s Future. It didn’t take too many pages to question whether I might not the best person to leave a review for this book because a fair amount of it was above my head. Then I decided maybe I’m exactly the right kind of reader to rate it since I imagine a good share of the population isn’t familiar with many of the names, rules and formulas in The Ecstatic Stock Market: A Map of Humanity’s Future. Probably just as many have never considered how far apart specific places are in the milky way and how that might impact us. The main takeaway, though, is that, according to the author, by learning and paying attention to some of these things, we can better know how they will affect what happens in the stock market and in our world. Of course, it will be down the road before we can see if David Rasmussen is as correct as Nostradamus was in his predictions, but for something that doesn’t exactly make sense to me, this book kinda makes sense. It was quite well written, but pretty scary to think it could all be accurate. So, I would say, if you’re interested in the kinds of things that impact or control our financial futures or apocalyptic types of scenarios, you might want to check out this book. You may need to read it more than once for everything to sink in and make complete sense (I intend to read it again, just not for a few days!), but it definitely predicts some interesting scenarios. I think if I understood it better in one read, I’d probably be inclined to give it 5 stars. Since it was difficult to grasp it all, I’m settling in at 4 stars with an open mind to upping my rating if I understand better after a second read.
