A very practical book

I have been searching\reading leadership related books for years. Most of the highly rated books are so long with so much unnecessary information without really enlightening me. This book is short and it gives actual examples. My favorite part is the communication, although I have not run into the exact situation yet but there are information I can borrow to be a better communicator. It is not outstanding, but definitely one of the top among all the books I have read.
Redundant and repetitive. Light on insight.

It’s hard to believe this is actually a book. Incredibly basic and common-sensical. Other books by the author probably suggest such helpful hints as “if you are turning blue, don’t forget to breathe.” The pabulum is presented over and over, in list and table and acronym form, so if there is, against all odds, anything in here you didn’t know when you clicked “download,” you will by the time you finish the book.

Nicely laid out with key points noted and exercises frequently. This is good reading for new managers without weighing them down with long winded details.

I loved their first book and was keen to buy this one. I was again impressed by how well thought out the whole book was. Having managed small and large teams in different industries I know the difficulties in managing people and this book gives very practical advice on all aspects of management. There are far too many books out there that are very academic in their approach, they over complicate the basics in managing people. I have recommended this to several of my clients already. I only wish I had read this when I started my career. I would also recommend this book to people who are not managers as it can be a very useful guide on how to get your manager to get the best out of you.

Not a starting point. If want a comic-book starting point, use the classic two book volumes by Yoram Bauman and Grady Klein: http://www.online store.com/gp/product/0809094819/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_55 and http://www.online store.com/gp/product/0809033615/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_53.) Near the end, the material is treated with increasing brevity and less clarity (or at least the what the implications are of the theory.)
Good but the author’s opinion bleeds through.

This series is a good one, and this book is a good overview of the concepts, history, and ideas of capitalism. The reason for the 3 star rating is the author’s opinion comes through too much. This isn’t normally a problem for me, but in this book it felt like it was mostly criticism of capitalism and explanations of why socialism is better.
There are many things they could have spent more time on, like Fujiyama or the other modern capitalist theories. But instead we got a lot of focus on Marx.
Overall it’s worth a read, (free if you are a Prime member) but it’s not the best in the series.
