O. Brown “I’m very disappointed. I like Dr. Sara and think she does good work. I like the tone of the book but but ultimately it is too flawed and lacking in substance to really be useful. The first big issue is the constant reference to her clients losing 5 pounds in 5 days!! (and similar grand statements) In essence, being a classic diet book in selling results that are unlikely to occur in most people. She also says losing weight should be done slowly. 5 pounds in 5 days is not slow. What to make of that contradiction? There’s more.

The ratios, proportions, and grams of macros do not add up and require much cross reference. She says calories don’t matter but as far as I can tell, she is advocating a rather low calorie diet. One recommendation is for 5 tablespoons of olive oil a day – you cannot have that intake and meet your macros and low calories.

Very frustrating that the recipes do not contain macros – I inputted one shake into My Fitness Pal and it was 1/2 my daily intake. And they contain ingredients not to be eaten during the four weeks.

I’ve also noticed that there are notes missing or that are inaccurate.

C M M “This is an American book which has been lightly revised for a British readership, but is still full of foodstuffs, supplements, devices and services which are only available in the United Kingdom with difficulty, or even not at all. The diet recommended is a modified keto diet, and there is an assumption that readers will probably have tried a keto diet in the past, and will understand what it entails. “I want you to eat a ketogenic ratio of 2 ketogenic factors to 1 anti-ketogenic factor. That means you’ll eat 2 grams of fat for every 1 gram of carbohydrate and protein combined.” Huh? It is possible to buy glucose and ketone testing kits on , but the book only gives details of American testing laboratories for the tests which would allow the diet to be modified for the benefit of an individual woman. My conclusion is that this book does not add anything to help a British woman over already available information on keto diets aimed at everyone.”

Lobby loo “I understand the process of ketosis, I believe the science and it all makes perfect sense but calculating the plan that’s right for yourself and applying it to your own life/lifestyle is extremely complicated. The recipes for shakes, salads, soups, casseroles etc. all contain a myriad of powders, oils, supplemental prebiotic fibre etc (probably to achieve the required 2:1 ratio) they’re just not ‘everyday’ practical and considering the book is encouraging the consumption of plants over everything else there are only 3 vegetable dishes and two of those are artichoke dishes. I had hoped to learn how the healthy low carb meals I have been cooking and enjoying for years can be ‘amended’ to fit in line with the plan but it just doesn’t seem possible. I’ll take from this book the benefit of eating good quality (free range, organic, grass-reared etc.) produce, eliminating processed foods, sugars and simple carbohydrates, perhaps drinking a little less wine and excercising a little more – but I already knew that. I’m not so overweight and unhappy with myself to be bothered to go to this extreme, so that’s a blessing.”
