I know Sharone Stevens from her classes at Skillshare, where she is beloved and followed by many.
People studied art academically, practice for artists and become virtuoso professionals. But many people study art for themselves, to create mini self-accomplishments and mini-private-self-realizations.
Watercolor art, like many, requires attention and Time to observe, study and contemplate. That Time, properly set psychologically, can bring much relaxation and joy. So Sharone’s best skill is to explain and show you- “there is something wonderful about just painting without pressure and purpose”; and also to give you all basic tools for elegance you’d love.
In the book you can find information for beginners about materials and techniques, also color study. Followed by more than 20 projects , with increasing difficulty to create a solid basis for your future confidence in the medium.
I guess the book is edited in USA (see how “color” is not “colour”; even if Sharone represents UK-based artists). I hope her followers from UK will not be offended! The book is great!
The paper is matte and the colors are intentionally muted- everything is very soothing , this is her style.
It is magic when you follow easy recipe, step-by-step and suddenly an eye-pleasing piece of art is facing you, wow, made by you!

Love this book

I have many beginner art watercolor books. I’ve started thinking it’s time to stop getting the beginner level books. However, this one is amazing. It is different in that there is a focus on mindfulness and the joy of art. But mostly I love the art subjects: they are terrific! The gem, rocks, and mosaic are unique and special. I love there are many suggestions to new painting ideas. This is the kind of book to happily paint through all the pages and be able to return to it again and again for the joy aspects. So glad to have this book!

I have been following the author on Instagram for about a year and I love all of her work. I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. I received it yesterday after pre-ordering it over Christmas and I couldn’t be happier. The instruction is easy to follow and there is so much content in this book. Great for a beginner or even somebody who wants to take it a little bit further, by expanding on the lessons.

Gorgeous illustrations. I’ve already talked a couple of my friends into buying it as well as my local indie bookstore.

I love this book and looking through it is as soothing as listening to Sharone’s voice in one of her many skillshare classes. The book is presented and designed beautifully with muted tones for all the projects, as well as fun extras like watercolor splatters on the pages. The instructions for painting each watercolor project are clear to follow, and since the whole focus of the book is about process and enjoyment of painting I like that I don’t have to worry about making it exactly look like the source or if I mess up. And if you are a beginner you can absolutely paint the projects in the book with non-professional level paints – just realize that the colors you get will be different. Sharone recommends and uses Winsor & Newtown Professional watercolors in the book, but I used WN Cotman watercolors and results were pretty close.

I love Sharone’s teaching style on Skillshare and was excited to get her book. It doesn’t disappoint. I love that she uses only nine colors and teaches how to combine these for all of the projects. This looks easy to follow and have success with watercolors.

I did not expect this book to be as simple as it is. Even the projects are simple drawings that you could think of and draw yourself. You can see drawings like these if you would search for example: watercolored plant pots or whatever the drawing is, on Pinterest. The painting is similar to a coloring book style, there is not much shading and everything is pale.

Absolutely adore this book. I really enjoy learning new skills and techniques but can get discouraged if my output isn’t perfect. Where this book is different is it focuses on enjoying the process of creating while taking you through step by step the most beautiful projects.

The explanations are clear as well as the section on creating a relaxing palette which I found really useful. The projects are beautifully painted but broken down in such a clear way that even a novice like me is able to create beautiful artwork without pressure and just enjoying the process.

The only downside to this book is that my son loves it so much he now needs his own copy 🙄

This book is beautifully presented, well written and totally inspiring for anyone new to watercolour painting or anyone wanting to brush up on their skills !
It has lots of simple projects to challenge but without daunting a beginner. The explanation on colour mixing is so well explained and it doesn’t require you to purchase lots of expensive items to get started on your journey.
It’s great value for money too, which is always a plus!
So pleased I purchased this, would highly recommend to anyone wanting to start watercolour painting. 5*

This is a really lovely book. It feels great to hold and the illustrations inside are beautiful. I feel inspired by all the projects and it has a nice mix of different things (I tend to usually just paint florals). Some of the projects are very quick which is great when you just want to paint something but feel short of time. I’ve painted the jellyfish and wreath so far and the instructions were really clear. I am very excited about trying the gemstones. I like the fact that it uses minimal colours to purchase and then encourages you to mix your own colours. I find painting this way is helping me to understand about the colours a lot more than other books I have purchased. I am so happy I ordered and it just makes me smile every time I look at it- a very worthwhile purchase.

I only started with watercolours under the second lockdown, purely on impulse, after finding Sharone by chance on Instagram. She convinced me that even a non-arty person like me could become an ‘artist’. I pre-ordered her book as soon as I heard about it and I’m so pleased with it. She explains the various techniques clearly and with real enthusiasm. My efforts at foliage have improved enormously after just a few hours of practice. Brilliant book!

Fantastic watercolour book for beginners! And for those who meed some inspiration like me. I follow Sharon S. in Skillshare and this book contains all her teachings together. Worth every penny!
