Attributes of Pandemonium by Ed Simon PDF

A compendium celebrating the art of hell and its minions. Pandemonium by Ed Simon PDF

Pandemonium: The Illustrated History of Demonology presents—for the first time—Satan’s family tree, providing a history and analysis of his fellow fallen angels from Asmodeus to Ziminiar. Throughout the book, there are short entries on individual demons, but Pandemonium is more than just a visual encyclopedia. It also focuses on the influence of figures like Beelzebub, Azazel, Lilith, and Moloch on Western religion, literature, and art. Ranging from the earliest scriptural references to demons through the contemporary era, when the devils took on a subtler form, Pandemonium functions as a compendium of Lucifer’s subjects, from Dante’s The Divine Comedy to John Milton’s Paradise Lost, and all the points in between. Containing rarely seen illustrations of very old treatises on demonology, as well as more well-known works by the great masters of Western painting, this book celebrates the art of hell like never before.

Disappointing

A unique and apparently well researched survey, but the binding is so tight that any art that goes across both pages is lost in the middle. And there are plenty of large images that are sadly ruined this way.

This is an usually lavishly illustrated book on the Black Arts.

I took a chance and ordered this book without having any familarity to how the material was gathered and presented. Overall it was money well spent because the illustrations are magnificent. Beautiful full color plates by some very well known artists capture the craft of summoning demons and other baneful creatures. Plenty of well researched history as well with a ton of subjects and assorted articles. If you happen to be interested in the subject, I advise you to act quickly and order this one. Beautiful books like this one are hard enough to find. Well defined and authentic historical facts are featured. Great book for collectors.

I just thumbed through my book and am very impressed with the beautiful illustrations throughout, the book is beautiful. Haven’t read it yet, but the contents look very interesting as well.

Beautiful book, minus one star due to how it’s bound.

The book is fantastic and well researched, with a lot of informative writings alongside the extensive number of illustrations presented.

If a new version is ever released with binding that allows the pages to lay flat and properly display some of the images which are lined too closely into where the pages are bound I will buy it.

One star was removed simply for that reason, the illustrations on a handful of pages are laid out on the page in a way that they stray too closely into the binding and become a bit difficult to fully see.

I would not let that fact detour you from buying this book, it is very well done and well worth the price tag.

Well made beautiful book. Type is very clear and readable on thick white paper, not small at all. Sharp full page images through out.

I bought this for the pictures. I’m not afraid to say I cut out the pictures I loved and put them in my scrapbook. No law against it. Now when I flip through my scrap book I can peruse all the great art I’ve collected from these little books over the years.
Highly recommended, and the text is amazing too. What a great author.
My 5 favorite purchases:
– Icon by Frank Frazetta
– Scream of Eagles by Robert Wilcox
– The Joy of Art by Carolyn Schram

Fascinating and beautiful book that looks the part too. Looks like it came straight off the shelf of the great John Constantine
