Not really a must have, but a good addition

– Most of the pictures are available online, particularly Jurassic Park and The Lost World. I was hoping that we would get alternative colors for the dinosaurs concept art, but no.

– It is a summarize of the making of the movie. So it’s not an in depth story, but just the highlight moments. If you’re a hardcore fan, you would know everything and more.

– How the bonus items were handled was annoying–they were glued onto the page. Fortunately you can remove them. But still, it would have been better if they included a pocket on the back cover, especially for its original price ($70).

Good book, however “Special Items” damage the book with glue stains

While the book itself and the presentation is great, the inclusion of “19 Amazing Special Items” is where things get messy. Now I didn’t know the book included special items and the items themselves are pretty neat, but the items are randomly glued throughout the book. The glue leaves a stain on both the pages and the items. Why the choose this method instead of putting the items in the beginning of the book incased in plastic is beyond me. The glue appears to be oil based and leaves an oil stain where ever an item is placed, which is throughout the entire book. The book is great, it’s just puzzling as to why they choose such a self destructive method of including the items that literally damage the book and items.

Wonderful content…horrible design.

I’m only going to address the design of the book because the content is exactly what you’d expect. The one comment I’ll make about the content is that it covers all three original films with short chapters on the merchandising and theme parks.

As for the design, someone decided that gluing artifacts into the book with random glue dots would be a good idea. It wasn’t. They not only discolor the artifacts but the pages themselves. Some people might choose to leave them intact, but they cover both photos and texts and if you choose to leave them in, you’re going to have a challenging time reading everything. I removed mine and found that leaving them in the book compromises the binding because some of them are thick booklets or fold outs and the binding isn’t wide enough for them all to be left in their proper pages without overstretching the binding. You could remove them all and put them in an envelope but they are all described on specific pages and removing them from those pages separates the item from the text explaining the item. They could have strategically glued in envelopes but in other “archive” format books, the envelopes often become unglued and you end up with the same problem of having to slide them in between page and compromising the binding. I would have probably just preferred that they integrate the artifacts into the book itself and skipped the gimmicky glue-ins altogether. Alternately, they could have bound them or the envelopes to contain them into the binding itself.

As is, I don’t think this is a book that’s going to physically age well. I suspect that artifacts will go missing…that the glue will further leech into other pages…and that secondary market copies will be incomplete unless they are sealed and unused.

A nice book to add to your collection for content…rubbish design.

Good, but not great

The book was a good read, but I felt the ancillary content like the inserts took away from the content, as well as stained the pages due to the glue they used. I would have preferred they put it in a packet at the end of the book rather than seed them throughout the pages. Some of the production art I wanted to see from the original ‘Making of’ was not in this version of the book (Tom Cranham designs), although it was nice to see larger versions of the originals (David Negron, John Bell) this time around. I also noticed some errors in the research describing a particular piece of concept art. Overall it is a great book, and it was especially nice to see art and concepts regarding the latter two movies, troubled as they were. Would recommend.

A fun and detailed exploration into the making of the first three Jurassic Park films. Beginning in 1983 when Chrichton first began working on the original novel and following the production from concept to screen. Filled to the brim with concept art, story boards, diagrams and behind the scenes photos, this book is a true visual delight! This book also details fun behind the scenes look at production woes faced by the cast and crew as well as a ton (30 plus) removable bits of memorabilia ranging from pages of the script to an “official” jurassic park badge and even stickers. A detailed and exciting read accompanied by the excitement of finding a interactive prize on the next page. Fun for the whole JP loving family!

Incredible! Wish stuff inside was more secured

This is such an amazing book! I only wish all the loose goodies like the story board/script booklets, in-universe business cards, stickers, etc were held in place by something more substantial than a single glue dot (which also stains the pages and materials with a little round grease spot if they get loose from their dot, many had already upon first opening). I can’t leave this on my coffee table because all that cool stuff is barely secured and I don’t want it falling out when someone looks through it without knowing theres a bunch of nearly-loose stuff between some of the pages. Like cmon, put little folder pockets on the pages instead, or secure them into the binding with perforations consumers can use to detach the item if they want to. Otherwise this is SUCH a great buy, perfect for any Jurassic fan, there’s so much in here about the making of the original franchise. If a World book is made I’d still buy it, even with the issue of the poorly secured extra goodies.

Enjoyable but not “Ultimate”

A fun book, although I found the many inserts to be more annoying than entertaining and had to pull them all out and put them in a folder before I could enjoy it. This is not the “Ultimate” visual guide one would hope for, as it is actually missing many iconic photos that would have been nice to have, and there is nothing particularly surprising inside. Some of the pictures, most noteably the cover art, have been modified from their original versions.

This book is 254 pages and it could have been twice as big for me. A fantastic book filled with concept art, facts and backstage photos from one of my top 10 films. It has lots of inserts throughout and it provides a comprehensive look at the jurassic park tribology. A must for any jurassic park fan!
My only criticism is for the way the inserts are placed into the book, glue dots are used that leave greasy marks on the inserts and pages, they also don’t hold the inserts firmly in place so when you finish looking through the book you need to straighten some of the inserts as they can move outside of the book covers and easily get damaged. Other than that, I’m thrilled with this book!!!

Amazingly detailed book with gorgeous artwork, photographs and inserts. A real must for any true fan of the Jurassic Park franchise. The reason I give four instead of five stars is the way the publisher handles the inserts – they are literally glued in to the book. I have similar books which feature inserrs and they utilise pockets or sleeves. The glue makes removal a bit awkward and leaves stickiness on some of the pages, not very well thought out. But overall a great value book for a JP fan.

Jurassic Park is my favourite film and if you are a fan of the original movie/trilogy, it won’t be disappointed. The book is absolutely stunning, great massive pictures, a lot of information and so many surprises! From a visitor badge to original storyboards and a lot more that I won’t want to spoil. It’s a must have for anyone who like the franchise and includes words from the original main cast as well. It’s beyond any of my expectations, I can’t recommend it enough!

This book is absolutely fantastic! I am an artist and enjoy art books for reference and for pleasure but this book is so much more. As the title say, it is the best Jurassic Park book you will ever get. There is an incredible amount of content as well as some surprises that any fan of the JP Trilogy, be mild or hardcore (me being the latter) will absolutely love. If you are a fan GET THIS BOOK!

The addition of replica art work and memorabilia is a lovely suprise the book is well written and adds many new stories I didn’t know about.
Could do with more on Jurassic park three and sometimes the recap of the plot and script changes feel a bit like filler.
Otherwise this is a long over due making of art book that Jurassic fans will love.
