Yet ANOTHER nail biter I couldn’t put down from this amazing writer!

When recommending this second book I’ve read, by Loreth Anne White, to my wife I told her, as with Beneath Devil’s Bridge, the things I love over Loreth’s work are, first and foremost, her incredible OBVIOUS I.Q. It is so refreshing to read her books because they’re INTELLIGENTLY written, have great characters, create superb suspense, and have plots that keep you guessing who did what until almost the very end of the book. Last night I told my wife I was at the 97% point in this one and STILL had no idea who did what. Ms. White introduces the most subtle, but nerve jarring red herrings in her works you just never are able to figure out who the bad guy is, or even if there really IS one, until the end of the book. Or at least I can’t, and I read a LOT of books in this genre. I also intend to read everything she’s written, a journey that is going to provide me with many hours of pleasurable entertainment. Thank you, Loreth, for yet another spectacular read!!! If I could give this author 10 stars I would.

So many secrets, so many lies

It’s always a good day when I get my hands on a new Loreth Anne White book. This one was quite dark and twisty, made even darker by the fact that it was inspired by true events.

Lily’s life is upended when her husband Tom finds a dead body and calls 911. But Tom is acting really weird, it turns out they both know this woman…and everything starts falling apart.

I didn’t find any of the adult characters very likable (not all the kids, either), but I could not stop reading, waiting for the inevitable trainwreck to happen! My suspicions changed multiple times, too many suspects to choose from. There are multiple POV, and every one acts at least a little shady, even the detective!

The story is interwoven with chapters about a gruesome murder in a tiny Canadian town that happened 30 years prior. It’s fairly graphic, and knowing it was based on true events made it more so. Eventually it’s revealed how that crime is connected to the present, and it was even more complicated than I had guessed.

The only thing I had a problem with was Lily and Tom’s children: 12-year-old Phoebe and 8-year-old Matthew. Both acted several years older than they were and their ages didn’t seem to fit. Especially Matthew, no way I could buy that he was only 8.

I’m running out of ways to explain how brilliant this author is! Please don’t miss this book, like me you might think it could be one of the best well-written I did not see any of the twists and turns coming and I pride myself on figuring things out! PLEASE READ THIS !!!
