Great Dane Dame “First, I was excited to read this as I work in an animal shelter and thought that would be cool to relate ours to hers. Well, there is very little about the shelter or animals in it, she might as well worked in a boutique. A pet peeve of mine is people who write in the first person; it is so boring and bland and the writing almost always is very elementary. That surely goes here. There was so much rich description that could have been given to flesh out places and characters and it just wasn’t present. I felt no connection between the characters and felt it is definitely written for a young audience. It ends rather abruptly so that it can set up the next story, without giving me enough to want to go on to the next story. I gave it 3 stars as there is nothing truly objectionable about it except it was so obvious who the “villain’ was going to be, but I guess that is a characteristic of cozy mysteries. She could have thrown in a few honest red herrings to keep things interesting. With some honest hard work and fleshing out this could be a fun decent story.”

Alice “Addie, who runs Helping Paws Animal Shelter comes to work one morning to find a soggy cardboard box with a cat inside. She wonders aloud how the black cat came to be there, and boy is she surprised when the cat, Persephone, answers her! After deciding she isn’t hallucinating, she finds out that the cat witnessed an art heist in the city and was duped into the box by her favorite treat, after chasing them down the street. No tags, but Persephone tells her her human is the owner of the art gallery. There’s a reward for the person who finds the thief and the painting and Addie figures with Persephone’s help, she can claim the reward and help her shelter. A fun and slightly quirky short story, that you are sure to enjoy!”

Jessi “I read to the end and it was interesting but the climax just didn’t hit very stongly. There wasn’t a lot of smaller build up and let down along the way to build to the culmination to make the finale a blast of action though the scene was set very well. Finally while the mystery disclosure was fun, the epilogue was a bit forced. Spoiler Alert!!!!

Would it be a big surprise if I told you she gets to keep the cat…no, the original owner would rather replace it with a toy dog.”
