Consuelo Escobar “YALLLL LET ME TELL YALL SOMETHING

i was begging God to pass me.(of course i had to work for it too)

But i know a lot of people who didn’t pass. TRUST ME IF YOU READ THIS YOU WILL PASS.
I got a 114 which is not high BUT it’s high enough.

I have my foot inside the door, all honor and glory to God.

I thought the word stress was going to be hard but the way they said them, it was obvious. The pictures tho….. that was hard for me.
As far as the rules, just get familiar with them and take practice tests.
PLEASE JUST FOCUS WHILE TAKING THE TEST.
They will show you the sentence so translate it in your head and THEN play the audio. Hover your mouse over the correct answer so you don’t forget which one it was.
I’m broke, but spending money on this book was not a waste. My grandma says that if it works, it’s not expensive.

I’m not good at grammar, trust me. But just know the basics. A grammar book isn’t necessary, just look up videos on YouTube.”

Chirs “Tested 18 Feb 2015 and used this study guide. BLUF I read through this twice and took the practice test and got a 133 so it was helpful. That being said there are some changes which you should be aware of.

1) You can display the rules for each section so no need to fully memorize them. Just be familiar.
2) In the listening portions with subject/very/object the word order doesn’t matter. This threw me for a loop. So just be prepared to hear it in any random order not SUB, VERB, OBJ like in the manual.
3) Have someone read you the audio questions. I just read it and it was very easy to decide between dogi and doge or Jim and Jiaam. However on the test there were several that all sounded the same.
4) No scratch paper allowed. For the syllable stress section I found using my fingers to count. Used my left hand to count the syllables leaving a finger up for the stressed one. Then I kept track of A/B/C/D on the right hand. There is probably a better way to do this but this worked for me. Also all the words will have the same number of syllables (specified in the instructions) so don’t worry about counting them to compare just focus on the stressed syllable. The stressed syllable was always pretty obvious but keeping track of which word was different was the tough part.
5) This test is done online which means with slow internet it can be frustrating. One thing that helped me with the time was that once I clicked play on each audio question it would take 10-15 seconds to buffer before it played. I used this time to read and translate the sentence so I knew what to listen for. While it’s buffering the clock stops so in effect this gives you more time on the test.”

Korey Getty “I can’t believe I passed! I scored a 118 with a “raw score” of 83 (whatever that means)

1) Study study study. Have someone read the practice test to you at least twice for good measure. Study what you did wrong and make sure you understand why it’s wrong.
2) The exam is honestly a lot harder than the book’s tests. In some of the audio sections, you will feel there are more than 1 correct answer, but you just have to trust your gut and go for it.
3) The rules are displayed but if you study long enough, you should already know them by heart. Also, the sentence to be translated is always displayed so you can play around with it in your head before and during the audio is played.
4) The picture section is unbelievably difficult. This is where I thought I failed! You just have to trust your studying and go with your gut, honestly. The best way I think I ruled options out was to look at endings of the rule-words and apply them to the picture you’re supposed to translate to. If a rule-picture ends in “ek” or “oa” look for the option that has that, or closely to that.
5) The stress-syllable option was a lot easier than I expected. Just count on one hand which syllable is stressed and rule the others out. Out of the 15 questions on that section, I probably only missed one or two.

I still can’t believe I passed and I’m honestly mediocre at best at learning languages! I probably missed about 15 questions or so out of the 40 sentence questions, I really thought I failed but I just kept focused, didn’t feel down on myself and moved on… and luckily, I passed.
I’ll repeat myself, it was much harder than I anticipated but I studied my ass off so I think I deserved the passing grade hahaha”

Matt “Took the DLAB on March 12 2018 and scored a 124. The rules in this book are still the exact same as they are on the test. This is a difficult test if languages do not come easily to you. I think I would have scored around a 70 if I didn’t use this study guide. Strongly encourage to have some one read you the study questions and have you answer them. The test itself was much harder than the study guide, mostly because they only read the answers once and it was a male with a Russian accent. You do get to see the rules throughout the entire test, so you don’t need to memorize them. However the last section that combines all the rules is very difficult to finish all the questions in time if you have to keep reading the rules. The picture section was tough also because of the time limit. For the picture section definitely recommend finding and answer quickly and moving on, otherwise you won’t finish all the questions. The one part that was easier than expected was the stress syllable section. The man reading the words made it pretty easy to identify which syllables were stressed.”
Dillon Uecker “This book was the best $10 I could have spent. I scored a 121 yesterday and qualified for cat 4 languages. The book is still a very accurate representation of what the dlab is like. The most important thing you need to do if studying for the dlab is memorize the 9 grammar rules for the audio portion. Because although the rules will be displayed throughout the test, you won’t have time to look at the rules before each question is read to you. You will run out of time. I ran out of time and I barely checked the rules during the test. And definitely have someone read the test examples out loud to you. And make sure read fast. Because the test reads extremely fast(with an accent).”
