If you struggle in speaking, then first realize that you are not alone. Public Speaking is the #1 fear in America. You are not alone.
Millions of people are terrified at the prospect of going up on stage and addressing a crowd even more than they’re afraid of death. Moreover, it’s an unavoidable experience if you want to succeed in this world. Maybe it’s a business presentation for your career path, a speech in school, or a toast at your best friend’s wedding. Fear of speaking grips you. However, it doesn’t have to. Not anymore.
Full of relatable anecdotes, executable tips, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, this book promises to teach you 7 proven strategies to help you find your inner presenter. Don’t wait any longer. Today is the day you take charge of your anxiety, calm your nerves, and – most importantly – speak with no fear.
Some encouragement from author and communications coach, Mike Acker:
Where you are is not where you have to be.
This sentence is included in my introduction. Do you believe it? Do you believe in yourself? At least some part of you does. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here! Let’s build on this belief. Take a moment and whisper the immortal words from the classic story, The Little Engine That Could, “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.”
Are you struggling? Do you find yourself dwelling on negative thoughts? “It’s not going to work for me.” “I’m just not a good speaker.” “I’m an introvert. I just can’t.” “I’ve tried in the past, and it didn’t work.”
If you are struggling to believe, will you begin to suspend disbelief?
I encourage you to read this book as a believer, not as a skeptic. Education will often teach you to think critically. Keep that mindset for work and academics. When it comes to improving your communication, you need to read this receptively. Trade in any negativity for positivity. Think well of yourself. Believe in yourself. Then invest in yourself by applying this book.
Act on these strategies and set yourself up for success in speaking, in your career, and in your life:

As an author of a public speaking book and an avid reader of anything related to mastering the art of public speaking, I’ve been through my fair share of public speaking books that just rehash the same old concepts that have been around since man has been speaking. Not only will the information be vanilla but the delivery will be boring and unengaging. You’ll wonder how you’ll ever get through the book when you’re struggling to get through the first few pages.
But then there’s Mike Acker. You can tell he’s a great speaker just by how he delivers the material he wants to get across to the reader (his audience). He expertly interweaves stories and analogies that make the book enjoyable to read at a level that you actually forget you’re learning something. Great speakers do that very same thing on stage. Their focus is fully on the audience to make sure the people who have granted their time and attention toward the speaker receives the best experience.
Great speakers care about their audience and the audience can feel it.
Mike cares about his readers in that same way to make sure you have the best experience going through his book. He knows if you take what he’s teaching to heart, he can change your life.
However, even Mike doesn’t expect you to finish the book and magically become a fearless public speaker. Mike has laid out actionable steps you need to take to put what you are learning into practice to truly benefit from what he is teaching.
Don’t skip the steps! If you don’t take the steps, if you don’t take action—nothing changes.
Since you’re reading this review, that most likely means you’re considering getting the book which also tells me you want something in your life to change. I assure you, if you put into action the steps in this book, your life will never be the same (in a great way!).
It will be worth every penny. It will be worth every minute you put into the book.
There will be no time wasted here.

Being an eloquent speaker is not necessarily something you are born with. It’s actually something you can learn, cultivate and hone. As the author, Mike Acker so aptly puts: “Believe in yourself. Where you are is not where you have to be.”
Many of the most gifted speakers that we see and admire – such as Warren Buffet, actually took public speaking lessons and have attributed that to much of his success. I love the fact that the author shares relatable experiences and struggles he has had with public speaking. Some of the very same struggles I am currently overcoming: Anxiety, nervousness, fear and just wanting to dive in a hole and just stay there rather than speak to a crowd of people. But as said in the book: “if you want to change your perspective, invest in your preparation, and take time to practice, then you will overcome your fear of public speaking.” I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for practical and actionable strategies in overcoming the fear of public speaking. It is indeed possible.
