Great way to start!

I had been wanting to learn piano for a while, and when this was suggested to me, I jumped right on it. This is not the first piano book I’ve used, but it’s definitely one of the best. It gives a simple breakdown on chord progression and even more simple than that, basic finger patterns and technique. It also comes with a big list of songs that you can learn, a lot of them beautiful songs. As with other books, you can’t use the videos on a kindle paperwhite. Perhaps a kindle fire? I’m not entirely sure. But the book itself is super easy to comprehend even without the videos. My favorite thing about the book is the breakdown with left hand songs and right hand songs. Which eventually leads up to songs that use two hands. It breaks it down for you in the beginning and as you get better, it adds challenge. Which is wonderful.

Perfect for beginners, if you’ve never played before, get this book.

I’ve never taken piano before and this book is perfect for that. In the beginning it focuses on hand positions and Piano key recognition. The note reading is gradual and easy, the book also tells you where to place your fingers. My piano teacher uses this book during our lessons and she seems to like it. I’m finally getting to the point where I can play simple songs. That’s gives you feeling of accomplishment. The videos are helpful too if you get stuck.

A good start but the book could be designed better

This is a good start and, while comprehensive, I can already tell that it should be supplemented with lots of other materials to get a holistic introduction to piano. I’m enjoying what I’m learning so far, but I can already tell that what I’m going to learn from this book will be limited solely for two big technical reasons. The first is that the sheet music is printed too small to see clearly, and as a beginner who is new to sheet music entirely this is not helpful. There are letters written in some of the musical notes to help you learn the positions of notes on the staff, but the printing is so tiny that it’s impossible to make out what’s a B or D or E or F. The second is that this book is perfect bound and would be better with spiral binding so it can lie flat. The small printing is made worse when you’re trying to read music that’s curved into the book’s gutter.

I really enjoy this piano book! I always wished I could play but never got the chance to as a kid/have never really gotten around to it as an adult. I’ve looked up beginner tips online here and there but they were never that helpful, videos by people on YouTube were hard to keep up with, etc. The fact that this book has videos that go hand in hand with the material is what makes this book stand out. I’m a more visual learner so if there’s a video tutorial that goes along with written material, learning is that much easier for me. It’s like I’m in an actual piano lesson. So thanks for that!
Also, learning music is something I’ve always struggled with. I had music class one year in elementary school and we had to learn to read music. It was so confusing (it didn’t help that we didn’t have books and the teacher didn’t explain it very well). The section with the acronym EGBDF made it a lot easier to get this time around. Would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn piano. Can’t wait to keep learning!

Very well written book. It is easy to follow and is suitable for people who do not have any prior knowledge on how to play the piano like myself. The language used is easy to understand and not complicated. It’s a simple, yet effective book to guide a beginner. Overall I would rate it a great book which is worth it.
