解剖学教科書の定番であるネッタ-先生の図を使用した薬理学の教科書である。実物以上にリアルであるネッタ-先生の絵は薬理学教材としても優れています。
これから定番の教科書の1つになるのではないかと思います。

A man and his pet alligator? That’s a nope-nope-nope
June 1, 2021
The Caiman is based on a legend or true story of a clockmaker named Faoro who adopted a baby caiman (alligator) and raised it as a pet. It was said to sleep at his feet and eat 6 1/2 pounds of meat a day when it was fully grown at about 10′ long. I say “legend” because the author claims this is true at the end of the book, that Faoro did indeed adopt an orphaned baby caiman and after his death, the caiman was unconsolable for a while and didn’t eat for four months.*
So this is an attractively illustrated book for pre-school and kindergarten to first graders, about the adopted caiman.
So here’s the problem; culturally, now we have a behavior standard that discourages adopting wild animals and even approaching them to pet them. GOOD ADVICE.
Second, alligators are unpredictable alpha predators and oh my goodness if you ever saw how fast one could move, you’d be even more wary of them; they can initiate moves right at the nerve bundles of their legs and don’t even think about jumping you–they just MOVE. They eat small dogs, and in one famous case at a Disney resort, the alligator dragged a child into a pond. So I don’t think portraying them as cuddly as a Norwegian Ridgeback Dragon called Norbert is a good idea.
It’s a curious story and it’s available also in Spanish so if you are teaching bilingual Spanish-English, that’s great to have a kiddy book in both languages. But if I lived anywhere, or WENT anywhere that alligators flourish (hello, Florida) I would not want my kid thinking they were cuddly pets.
So I have to say , nope nope nope.
*I know what you’re thinking, Faoro died because the caiman ate him and he was so full, he didn’t NEED to eat for four months but that’s not what the author says happened. But in case your mind went there…let me reassure you.
