Not a happy customer
You’re probably freaking out about the HESI A2….

… stop. The test is manageable if you are motivated enough to study. Heck, some people have done extremely well with just a few days of studying (I would not recommend this). Anyway, about this book…
DISCLAIMER (my nursing program only required Math, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Vocab; ergo, I will only talk about those subjects).
Overall: This book is a fantastic second resource. I would highly recommend the book HESI Admission Assessment ED. 4 by Elsevier (the test makers) as your primary resource and the Pocket Prep application “HESI A2.” Most of the questions in this book are far harder than the exam itself, but I found that encouraging when test day came.
Math: I think the math section had a few parts that helped me further understand some odd math problems. A good example is reducing fractions before multiplying them. I also got really bothered when I saw long word problems; however, I did have a few on my exam so it was good practice that I did not think I needed. My one “complaint” is that they might have too much on math. Not sure that is an awful thing, but don’t sweat remembering every detail; Unless, you’re aiming for a 100%. If so, I tip my cap to you and say, “Good luck.”
Reading Comp: Listen, you either get this section or you don’t. No study guide book is really going to help you nail this section. Your best bet with this section is reading a news article everyday leading up to the exam. Be sure to time yourself when you do this. Then ask yourself what is the author trying to conclude? What is this word I don’t know based on context clues? Is the author trying to persuade me, inform me, or entertain me? Or get a study guide with more questions, because this section, along with all the sections, only has 50 questions.
Vocab: This was my second favorite section. I remember feeling pretty “cocky” about vocab and I took a practice test from “HESI A2 Study Guide 2019 & 2020: HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review 2019-2020 4th Edition & Practice Test Questions” and I got murdered. I was getting in the high 90s on most other study guides/tools and I remember many words from this prep guide actually on my exam. Be humble in what you know and push yourself to learn more. That being said, like reading comprehension, you either know vocab or not. Yes, using my 3 resources I think I was able to capture maybe 40-60% of what was on the exam, but there were still 20ish questions that there were in no way ones you could plan to be on the exam. Like, how do you spell this word? Or you have a dog that is well trained, which word would you use below? I remember being so frustrated that there weren’t more Medical Terminology questions on the exam, it was just things you kinda had to know or hear in the past to get an idea.
Grammar: For me this was the best section. Yes, it’s way longer than it should be, but grammar was my worst section going into the exam. I not only knew the answer to many of the questions that came up, but specifically WHY they were right or wrong. If you are not a grammar Nazi, get this book just for this section. You’ll thank me after the exam.
Few tips….
If you end up getting this, HESI A2 Study Guide 2019 & 2020: HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review 2019-2020 4th Edition & Practice Test Questions, please note that their 3rd practice test are all the post test questions in this book. Which is total… you know what.
Always study a little bit each night, trust me a little everyday goes a long way.
The week leading up to the test, study the section that has been the hardest for you — everyday. That was so much better than further sharpening my skills in sections I felt confident about going into the exam.
Do little to no studying the night before the exam.
Get a solid 8 hours the night before.
Have a big lunch or breakfast before the exam, my stomach was growling like a lion by hour 3.
Have confidence in yourself, you’ll reach your goal with enough determination.

I made an 87% using this book as well as others

Ok, so I took the HESI 2 weeks ago and I made an 87% on it! To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend using this book as the ONLY study source… Try getting an additional study book. Pros of this book: Really helped me with the math and english part of the test! Cons: Practice tests are way harder than the actual test and the science sections are more in depth (especially the A & P part) Another thing that helped was getting this app called Pocket Prep. You should Pay for the upgraded version it’ll be the best money you will ever spend!

This is a great foundation for the HESI. This was the primary study guide I used, and I scored a 88%. The only section I didn’t score in the 90s on was the A&P. I’d definitely recommend further anatomy studying if you haven’t already taken the class.
