Dura Lee is a South Korean illustrator who lives in Seoul. She originally studied fashion, before becoming an artist. Her most recent graphic novel, Youth and Island, was released in 2020.

While Cliff Tan’s TikTok account (@dearmodern) concentrates on quick fixes for both real and model spaces, his book fills in all the gaps that avid followers will want to know about the principles of feng shui. Starting from the very basics, he offers the reminder that while practicing feng shui in your spaces doesn’t guarantee success, it never hurts to stack the deck in your favor – that having a well-designed, thought-out space to live and work in will definitely benefit you! With plenty of floor plans and illustrations, Tan demonstrates the dos and don’t of designing for good energy flow, strength, and tranquillity. His writing is delightfully conversational, capturing the cheerful animation he’s known for on TikTok, which will likely captivate a whole new fan base. Recommend Feng Shui Modern to those who are ready to make their environment match their ambitions!

Great Resource for Understanding Feng Shui

I’m a fan of Cliff Tan on Instagram and marvel at how he can rearrange rooms/homes into more positive environments. His book looks like it is going to be a great resource book on Feng Shui and how to apply the principles into a “modern” world. I’ve done a quick read of it once, and am looking forward to spending more time on each chapter. I like that you can quickly look up each room you may want to focus on (e.g. bedroom). I also like the sections on color.

A Modern and Practical Approach to Feng Shui

I remember I used to obsess about the “baguas” of my home and think I needed to paint certain rooms certain colors to improve my life. But then I read the intro to this book and realized Modern Feng Shui is about feeling good in the space you’re in and making the most of what you have. Cliff does a great job of summarizing Feng Shui for the modern person and now I feel much less pressure to make my home “perfect”, but instead, to optimize Chi and how I feel when I walk in. This is a great read for me because I just moved into a new house and I have to plan the furniture! I am now thinking about the flow of chi and command positions when I enter a room. Thank you, Cliff!

The book is well written that easy to understand and apply to your own home. I have an old victorian house with unique layout and I followed the lessons and facts in this book and now my living room that I felt was dark and uncomfortable so I would avoid spending time in that room. Now my living room is bright and cozy feeling and all I had to do was take into account the chi flow of that room and arrange my furniture to that flow. I didn’t have to buy any new furniture to make my living room work for me but I did buy some plants to fill in the dead spaces that my living room had and I love it. I will be busy applying these techniques to the rest of my home and my friends.

This book does an excellent job breaking down the more complicated spiritual aspects of feng shui into easy to understand concepts and principles. Engaging and fun read! 10/10 would recommend!

Cliff makes feng shui easy to understand and apply, while incorporating flexibility and personal feel.

I’ve been using Cliff’s practice to help organize rooms in my house and outside and wouldn’t have been able up without this book.

I follow Dear Modern on TikTok and love his pragmatic, concise and clever solutions to room layout problems. I was so excited to pre-order his book and I’m not disappointed! I’ve been looking for a book for ages that makes Feng Shui easy to understand. This is it! I blitzed through it in a few days. It takes you through the foundations without over complicating it, and is packed full of practical advice. Definitely worth the money.

Such an amazing book with so much knowledge in it. As someone who knew little to none about Feng Shui I have truely learnt so much with lots of visuals and diagrams to help understand elements and ideas. I have bought another copy for a friend and would recommend this book highly!
