this book is really quite well done. the first few chapters go over some of the basics of using procreate. the way they are able to demonstrate gestures in the instructions are well done. much of the book is really more about how to USE procreate and it is done well. the tutorials are great to see how others approach their process of using PC in tbe drawkng process. some of the artists and styles give a good variety of approaches artistically. the tutorials are varied but more on process. i wish it was more about character design but knowing how to use the artists tools is super important. i find myself using the book as a bit of a PC reference. the fact that you can download some of the sources is pretty cool.

i ended up buying Creatjng Stylized Charactwrs from 3DTotal and this is a great companion that really gets into the nuts and bolts of character design.

i’m just a hobbyist. at 56, i’ll not ever really be able to out this to work in any way to earn a living. but it is certainly helping me have a lot of fun using PC to pretend i had gone down a different path in my life and pursuit a creative career.

so ultimately this book is a big thumbs up. well worth it if you want to get off the ground jn learning PC given the creative context of character design. the print quality is quite good on good paper. yiu can tell they care about putting out a good quality product. for a print product, it does a good job of equipping one to learn PC with some examples of character design done by a variety of artists.

note: i use PC on an iPad Air 4 with Apple pencil two.

This book is a good start on learning Procreate interface and then how to use imagination in character design. It’s is very helpful.

I bought this book as I have the first one and just loved the gorgeous art tutorials on offer in this one! First things first, I absolutely love the style of 3DTotal’s books. I have many of them and have always found them to be sophisticated yet fun, with bright colours and gorgeous layouts.

The first half of the book details the basics and more advanced options that the Procreate app offers. It’s much like the first book in terms of this, so both are able to be bought as standalone copies.

Where this book shines as its own is the tutorial section. You are taken through the steps from initial ideas to final illustration of the pieces shown on the front cover. I loved how much I learned about these artist’s mindsets and methods, with each taking on a different and unique art style.

I’d highly recommend to both beginner and amateur artists who are interested in better understanding the program and its offerings.

Había comprado el otro libro introductorio de Procreate que tienen y la verdad se quedó corto en comparación a este. En este libro encontrarás como usar ciertas herramientas para darle vida a tus dibujos de comienzo a fin, no te enseñará a dibujar cuerpos ni expresiones ni nada de eso, pero te enseñará a pintar tus bocetos o paso a paso usando las capas, los efectos y los pinceles a tu favor. MUY recomendable para las personas que apenas comienzan en el mundo del dibujo digital a través de procreate, aunque también lo recomiendo mucho si es que empiezan con otros programas ya que la mayoría de las herramientas son las mismas en todos los programas de dibujo solo cambian de ubicación o icono dependiendo de cual uses

If book collecting or for any reason the condition of the book is one of your priorities, think twice before ordering. The book came a bit worn, especially at the corners, see image for reference. I take out 1 star because of this, but this is more of a utility book for me, this problem doesn’t bother me as much.

As for the book,
This book is for you if you are:

–> a novice user of Procreate and need a summery of what kind of functions or effects Procreate has to offer or can do. This book starts with teaching about the UI under different functions and showcasing Procreate’s functions such as filters with before and after images for you to see the results it can achieve.

–> a beginner artist learning the workflow of drawing characters. The second part focuses on some of the ways to sketch, color, and refine the final drawing. It also touches on how to draw facial features and what to pay attention when drawing those, especially for character of different age, etc.

–> an experienced artist looking to try out different art styles by learning other artists’ workflow. The tutorial part includes step by step of how each artist draw the flat color version, and how they enhance it with different lighting and filters.

This book is not for you if you are:

–> looking for a book on character design. It does not touch of the topic on creating a visually compelling character or how to stage a character within a scene.
