#1 New York Times bestselling authors Preston & Child continue with the wildly popular series featuring archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson. Diablo Mesa PDF By Douglas Preston

Lucas Tappan, a wealthy and eccentric billionaire and founder of Icarus Space Systems, approaches the Santa Fe Archaeological Institute with an outlandish proposal—to finance a careful, scientific excavation of the Roswell Incident site, where a UFO is alleged to have crashed in 1947. A skeptical Nora Kelly, to her great annoyance, is tasked with the job.

Nora’s excavation immediately uncovers two murder victims buried at the site, faces and hands obliterated with acid to erase their identities. Special Agent Corrie Swanson is assigned to the case. As Nora’s excavation proceeds, uncovering things both bizarre and seemingly inexplicable, Corrie’s homicide investigation throws open a Pandora’s box of espionage and violence, uncovering bloody traces of a powerful force that will stop at nothing to protect its secrets—and that threatens to engulf them all in an unimaginable fate.

What happened to Nora Kelly ?

February 23, 2022

In past novels the character of Nora Kelly was very professional and believable as a female protagonist. This edition starts out in a similar manner, and is written in a way that grabs the reader’s attention.

However, that does not last long. The novel quickly changes from an archaeological story to a search for ET and his spaceship. Nora is cowed by the financier of the dig so badly she not only signs up for the dig, but starts sleeping with him. It goes downhill from there.

The antics of secret government units and Nora herself turn the story into a thriller better published in a comic book like the ones I read until I was about 12 years old, and that was a very long time ago.

First 75% is rather nice, the rest – utter crap

February 17, 2022

The series was progressing nicely and was hugely promissing – that is before this installment was published. Preston & Child used to excercise a nice balance between things believable ant utterly bollocks, but here this balance has gone for good. If you love archeological thrillers, avoid this book, because there’s nothing that could justify it being called as such
Entertaining , Well Written Sci Fi Thriller Novel

February 15, 2022

A US billionaire recruits a team of scientists to excavate the famous Roswell site to search for possible mysteries hidden beneath its surface. In this third Nora Kelly book, she overcomes her skepticism to join the team, which leads to new discoveries, international intrigue, and unpredictable dangers for the main characters. Overall, I enjoyed reading this novel, which I found well written, imaginative, and ultimately thought provoking.

 Break out the popcorn!

February 23, 2022

Although this book started a little slow, it kicked in around the 30% mark and just kept getting better and better. Combining the Roswell Incident, the H-bomb, Cold War spies, UAPs, and a secret military organization, it’s a riveting adventure full of pulse-pounding moments and far-flung conspiracies.

Although this is the third Nora Kelly/Corrie Swanson adventure, you don’t need to be familiar with the previous books. Archaeologist Nora is recruited by an eccentric billionaire to excavate a dig at Roswell. When two bodies are unearthed, Corrie is called in from the FBI. This is when the train really starts rolling.

I loved the introduction of new character, adventurer/billionaire Lucas Tappan, and it was great to see the return of fast-draw sheriff, Homer Watts. Nora’s brother, Skip, gets several moments to shine, and who can resist having Mitty, the dog, tag along?

There’s plenty of danger, dollops of sci-fi, intrigue, duplicity, bad guys to “boo,” and two clever heroines to cheer for. I love the fact that neither Nora nor Corrie are written as “kick-butt” characters, but rather as smart, professional women willing to take risks.
Break out the popcorn and enjoy the ride. I can’t wait to see where this series heads next!
