Best PNR Book And Oh So Steamy

Her Soul To Take is a full-length standalone.

I swear, each time the author writes a book, she proceeds her previous work. This book is like no PNR I have ever read. Ever. Add erotica on top it. Now I know what some are thinking it’s over the top. I am here to tell you it’s not. The author’s vivid imagination and her writing talent give you the perfect balance of the two. This book is delicious, and I see a reread in my future.

My review will be vague. You will see no spoilers. All I will say is read your trigger warning and don’t take it lightly. It’s not a really dark book, meaning it’s not black; on my dark scale, it’s a medium gray to gray. The warning is more of the kinks involved in this book.

Rae returns to live in her birthplace after her parents move to Spain. She dabbles as a paranormal investigator while attending college. Where she first runs into Leon, who is in human disguise and working as a security officer. Leon is instantly attracted to her. And Rae is very much intrigued by Leon. She goes looking into somethings she just shouldn’t, and she gets herself into some trouble, and that is an understatement.

Rae is what I love to see in a heroine. A strong, independent woman, not ashamed of her sexuality and far from a damsel in distress. Plus, she knows how to ask for help and stands by that person. Leon is the perfect Demon. He pushes Rae’s limits and knows when to back off. His comebacks are the best. So sarcastic.

I was all over the place in this book. I went from saying, “ You in danger, girl” (sound familiar ? ) to “I freaking love Leon. “ I just couldn’t get enough and wanted to cry when the book was over. The plot and character growth are astronomical. Parts of this book remind me of Stephen King’s early work. And the steam is out of this world—one thousand out of five.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series and see who and what it is about. If you like PNR and erotica, Her Soul To Take is for you.

Let me be clear, the ONLY reason I’m giving this book two stars instead of one is because of the spice factor. The steamy-ness was great. However, the female main character is WEAK. She never learned her freaking lessons despite MULTIPLE people warning her. Constantly she would throw herself into danger and just hope for the best.
The main male character was hot, yes. But he falls in love with Rae for what? Because she’s a hot nerdy girl who likes horror?
DNF at 75%. I couldn’t take it anymore.

As you all know by now, I’m one of Harley’s biggest fans when it comes to her erotica. Ever since I read The Dare, I haven’t shut up about how much I love her novellas and shorts. So, when I heard that Her Soul To Take was a full-length novel, my life became complete. I was extra excited because I got an ARC of the book. I’ve been (very obviously) stuck in a reading rut lately. I haven’t been reading as much, and it’s been taking me AGES to read a book. Imagine my surprise when outside of me being hypercritical in the first chapter (this is the first sign of a reading rut), I couldn’t help but turn the page. I devoured this book and could not put this book down. It was that good.

You can always tell that I love a book because I can never seem to write a review for it. I just can’t seem to put into words how much I enjoyed it. The book started off a bit slow, but I was hooked by the end of chapter 3. The plot was nothing that I have experienced before. The creepy horror aspects paired with the erotica and romance had me a bit worried, but they worked surprisingly well. The horror aspects of this book really fit with Harley’s erotica style. The harder kinks work incredibly well with the plot and the characters. I highly suggest that you note the content warnings when it comes to anything Harley writes but especially this book. It wouldn’t be a Harley LaRoux book without talking about the erotica, which was explosive, to say the least. Seriously, this book might just make you have to go to confession. I’ve read Demon romances before, but… damn.

As always, Harley’s characters were well written, and I loved watching Leon and Rae interact. I will admit, at times, I wanted to yell at Rae for being an idiot, but she was idiotic in a realistic way. I never thought that her reactions were not natural, even though they were not the choices I would have made. I also loved that Leon wasn’t all-powerful. Many books with supernatural characters have the main hero as the mightiest of them all, and I loved that that wasn’t Leon. Leon truly is a cinnamon roll for Rae, and I just loved it.

All in all, this book is incredible. It kept me wanting to turn the page & brought back the feel of reading for me. Seriously, it was fantastic. The horror aspects were great, and the romance aspect of it was incredible. Seriously, it’s excellent, and I can’t wait for it to be out in the world so I can shove it down everyone’s throats.

Fans of Harley’s novella “The Dare” can expect to see the same level of k*nk in HSTT but in Novel size which means Harley is able to give us so much more, not only in steamy scenes but she’s able to cultivate and build us a world that will continue on for two more standalone books!

Ancient Gods, A small mining town, Demons & Monsters, and one outgoing paranormal investigator who has a penchant for not listening and landing herself smack dab in the middle of literally everything!

Harley has woven a story that has you salivating for Leon, the demanding demon who also happens to be nicknamed “Killer” and here comes Rae just giving zero fu**s about pissing off a demon because honestly all she wants to do is sip her coffee and get more foot traffic on her paranormal channel.

Not to be outdone by the main characters, we have a cast of supporting characters that are just as enticing (I’m looking at your Zane and Callum) and I have a feeling that we will see much more of them in this “quiet” small town in Washington.

If you like claws, demon s**, things that go bump in the night, with a hefty splash of k*nk than Her Soul to Take is for you! At the end, Harley had me swiping wishing for more.
