I am studying for the NCMHCE and a supplement that I purchased to study for the exam recommended this book. I figured it would be yet another counseling book I’ve bought, where I’d skim through it and only read what I find applicable. Wrong!! I cannot put this book down!! It basically sums up the entire DSM-5 in an easy to read format. There are plenty of studies cited in the reading, but it doesn’t feel like a purely academic read at all.
It cuts out everything that you don’t need to know. I wish this book had been part of my graduate school reading, because I believe I would have been much less stressed about learning the diagnoses and knowing what interventions to apply in my clinical internship.
