Another sweet romance novel

I have been reading Adele Abbott’s paranormal series for years now, but kindle threw this romance series up as a suggestion recently. This isn’t the sort of genre I would seek out, but I tried the first in the series because I’ve enjoyed her other books, and I have been counting down to this one’s publication date because I liked it also. The “I dated my boss” plot could be horrible, with room for severe boundary issues and exploitation, but she handles it well. Her characters meet plausibly before the employment relationship starts, and neither lead tries to take advantage of the other. The books are light but she addresses real family, friendship, and especially dating issues from the point of view of young single women. Since these are romances you know the leads will navigate past the misunderstandings and pitfalls she sets before them, but she creates enough narrative interest to keep you wanting to know how it will happen. Neither lead (nor the secondary characters) is perfect, which makes the books more enjoyable for me. Her narrators are like-able and demonstrate caring hearts. All in all these books are a breath of fresh air allowing a
brief regrouping before facing the grim real world out there again.

First of all – wow! British girls know how to have fun.
Second of all – the book is stupid, annoying, doesn’t tell you anything you don’t already know. The author’s stories are pathetic/sad/annoying. I really don’t see the reason for listening her moan about how she hated her teenage years because she couldn’t be independent, and drinking on every occasion since 10 years old made her feel like an adult… when she finally became an adult, she spent her uni days getting dead drunk and moaned university gave her nothing.. well, I wonder why that was the case … :/

Self indulgent nonsense from someone who just comes across as spoiled and immature. Her best friend seems nice though, would rather read her book.

I cannot understand any positive reviews of this book. Jumps about chronologically speaking which is annoying as are the fillers such as a random recipes/lists.
Her stories are underwhelming and describe most people’s student life. She comes across as selfish and jealous and a terrible friend – not a character who you can warm to at all. There is nothing interesting about this woman’s life. If there was a zero star button she’d have it.

I was so looking forward to reading this book after all the hype and the great reviews and was so disappointed. I thought it’d be a fun and thoughtful read but even though the book was easy to read, it felt so superficial. It almost felt like a book someone wrote because they had to. I was hoping on some insights or feeling like I learned something once I finished reading it, but all I can say is that maybe she should have waited ten years before writing this.

I think it is well written, however the content was very self indulgent. The start had promise and I hoped it would continue to be an outlook on growing up through the 90s/00s… however in the end I couldn’t finish the book because it irritated me too much; focussing on a small minority of rich spoiled kids with an annoying tone (the humble brag) and bolstered by irreverant stories.
