Oh, my word, what a good story! Our Lost Song by Emily C. Childs is the third novel in the For Love and Rock series, and while each novel can be read as standalone, I really feel this series should be read in order because, at the heart of this series, is the concept of family. Characters from books 1 and 2 appear in book 3 and are pretty important to the development of this theme of family that runs throughout the series. And this is why I am really enjoying the For Love and Rock books. I love the idea that people of different backgrounds and life experiences can come together with mutual morals and values and become a family that is fiercely strong and loyal. To be a part of a group of people who would stand up for you and have your back no matter what is truly a blessing.

In book 3, Childs illustrates the positive side of stepfamilies. Let’s be honest, in today’s day and age, the likelihood that many families are blended is pretty high. Sure, like anything, blended families can and do have their negatives, but all too often, stepfamilies are major blessings. In my personal experience, the blending of families was one of the best things that ever happened in my life. When my mom met and married my stepdad, we had some major adjustments as a family for sure, but the positives of having my stepdad and sister and brother in my life far outweighed the negatives of change. I really related to the illustration of blended families in Our Lost Song, and I applaud Childs for crafting a story that shows this blending in a positive light. I loved how Finn and Jazzy fall for each other — man, the chemistry between them is outstanding — but what I really loved the most is how each of them fell for the other’s child, too. I appreciate how Finn steps up and becomes the father figure that Mason desperately needs, and I love the sweet, caring relationship that grows between Jazzy and Micah.

There is so much more positive to say about Our Lost Song, but I don’t want my review to become a novel. Suffice to say, if you are a fan of wonderfully crafted, well-told, sweet Contemporary Romances then I highly recommend Our Lost Song. You will love this book so much!

Best in the series

The series just keeps getting better and better. We are introduced to Finn and Jaz in the last book. And I wasn’t sure if I would care about their story. But the author has a way of not only drawing me in but making me fall in love with these two. Out of all of the characters we’ve been introduced to these two are my favorite. The author has a way of writing beautiful flawed characters who grow as the book continues. To see them fall in love was heartwarming. Seeing how much they each loved Micah and Mason was heart warming. You can see where the angst would be coming from but then it went completely different than I expected. I appreciated how the author handled the drama and it wasn’t the same ole same. I loved seeing the former characters make an appearance and see how they’ve progressed. Can’t wait to learn more about Reese in the next book. And here’s to hoping Parker gets a book!

I was not expecting this masterpiece. It’s not at all what I expected. But in the best way. Jazzy and Finn were perfect for each other. Early on you see “oh that’s what breaks them up” and while it is, it’s not in the way you think! Genius! I loved the love story but was absolutely blown away and more infatuated with the love story for Mason.

We also got to see the characters from former books – something I always enjoy. But, we got more of Tate being Tate and I don’t know why but Tate stole my heart and I guess he decided to keep it. I think Mason has too.

I loved how this story evolved. I also love a strong honest woman. And this story has several women fitting this description. The way she loves and fights for her boy, man…..and a daddy ( make a note I said daddy, anyone can be a dad but it’s someone special to be a daddy), I mean the way he cares for his daughter. I find is pathetically sad the way the birth mother was, but in the same vein she knew she wasn’t fit, so she did the right thing by giving higher to her father, but still remaining somewhat in her daughters life. Just a wonderful story, of family and what the word means.❤️💙😍

Great love story of a family being formed

I loved this book. The characters were real complex and had dealt with the challenges of real life. It was beautiful to watch them come together and form a family.

I also love how Emily doesn’t fall into the old tropes that some authors use to add angst —like miscommunication that can be easily cleared up with a convo. She makes her books interesting and fun with compelling characters dealing with issues of when life hasn’t gone right without all that artificial stuff.

This series seriously just keeps getting better! Reading in order isn’t a must, but I recommend it (it’s not like it’s a spoiler to know the main characters HS up together, I red it for the journey).

Some great kisses, clean beyond that.

It really is a beautiful story, the way the two adults LOVE. There are so many types of love, and they are all represented in such beautiful ways in this book, and in the whole series. I can’t wait for the next one!
