AB “I am a Christian who believes in biblical gender roles. While the author’s ideas sound good on the surface and the colored glasses analogy is helpful, this book ultimately does more harm than good. There is a subtle misogyny in the author’s language that weighed on me while reading. His opinions are not congruent with my understanding of my identity in Christ. The author also plays fast and loose with scripture, taking passages out of context and building his own narratives around them, neglecting the whole of biblical witness. This was very damaging to me as a new wife trying to find my footing. I finally felt validated after my father (a long-time conservative Christian) told me he saw this author speak and also thought it was a sham. For wisdom in navigating your marriage, stick to the actual Bible and healthy Christian community.”

This author’s misogynistic view points left me absolutely befuddled and even my significant other (who is very much a man’s man and a traditionalist) saw the issues with this book. We discussed what we had read together and then put it down after the first chapter. And never picked it up again. He was surprised I had even ordered a book like that when our whole relationship is based on equality and MUTUAL love and respect. Not just me respecting him and him loving me. He also respects me and I love him. Very unimpressed with this author and what he’s written.”

Matthew “This book is absolutely terrible. The only reason I got it was because there were so many great reviews. I figured it had to have something good in it. No. It seems almost like it was written by the onion as a parody on actual advice.

Basically this whole book is built around the idea that all problems in a marriage are because a woman won’t have enough sex with her husband. If a woman would just have more sex with her husband, all problems will magically be fixed. It’s also completely based around religion, and tries to come up with biblical rational for his reasoning.

According to this book a husband has a god given right to rape his wife any time he wants. According to the author that’s what the bible says. According to this book it’s in the bible that a wife should sexually fulfill a husband any time he wants, but the bible doesn’t say anything about how a wife should be sexually fulfilled, so that doesn’t matter.

The author is very focused around the topic of sex, and it’s really strange. It seemed like the entire book was really focused around sex. Nothing else in the marriage matters. I feel it says more about the authors and their views on women than anything useful.

If you’re wanting a religious based argument for why a man should be able to have sex with his wife any time he wants, then this is a great book for you. If you don’t like people suggesting your wife is the source of all problems and the fix is to rape her because god says so, then I don’t recommend this book.”

Oceans24 “The man who writes this puts man at the center and not Jesus. He’s himself taken a couple verses and built a business and righteous marriage belief system he calls biblical that has in fact hurt many marriages, especially troubled abusive ones. His teachings are not of whole scripture, therefore women ultimately are disrespected and put in a lowely position, and men are taught with permission and little personal study to be modern chauvinist as though it’s biblical. It wasn’t the way of Jesus at all. Christian men being taught subtly to tower over there wives, expect respect no matter their behavior ultimately. No real accountability or responsibility That’s dangerous and not God’s way, nor Christ’s love. Women are taught to serve and they continue to feel as though they are the worthless servants the devil wants them to feel. No wonder women are leaving their husbands more and more even in Christian homes. This book has been toxic to Christian marriages and people need to stop using it to solve their marriage problems, as well as similar books. Women’s hearts and intuition are not flawed as he says. More and more people need to speak up about this. Be brave.”
