Are the rich bad for society? The author of this book, a successful Canadian entrepreneur who made his fortune and created 3000 jobs, has written a manifesto celebrating the achievements of people who have earned their wealth.  Great rebuttal to excessive taxation

April 3, 2022

Book does a good job of arguing why the “tax the rich” plan is plain wrong and is only creating class division. Wealth correlates to productivity. No government creates wealth. It only taxes wealth. This is why socialism is a non-starter. If you tax the wealth and income any higher, people just flat out won’t be incented to be productive and create wealth. This means no productivity and no wealth and there simply won’t be anything to tax. We will all be looking at each other as fellow hunters and gatherers. Either people will stop working hard or they will move to someplace where they will be rewarded for their hard work.

The book also does a good job of explaining how hard people in the business world work. It’s simply not 40 hours a week and then sit around watching tv. It’s typically 60 to 80+ hours and a lot of sleepless nights and days away from home. People working at this level and creating jobs and products and services deserve to be rewarded.

Finally, much of the “tax the rich” construct used by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and AOC comes from European economists like Piketty, Zucman, and Saez. These economists want to push the US to be socialist like Europe, a place where productivity is decreasing, and a place that will have a hard time defending itself from an existential threat like Russia. They will want the US to help them in another World War. Europe is no longer a world leader because of socialism. Socialism makes it so there are no companies like Microsoft, , Facebook, Netflix, Google, Starbucks, et cetera started on the European continent. There is no incentive to create these companies. There is no entrepreneurship like in the US. We all need to keep this from happening to the US.

Bullen does a terrific job of illustrating many of the counterintuitive issues generally associated with wealthy people. Even for those who have a predisposed biased again the rich, this book, if approached with an open mind, might just broaden your perspective.

We Need More Wealthy People – Not Fewer

I love this book! It is a fact that the successful entrepreneurs who scale companies are the ones who create most of the value in our economy, benefiting the entire population.
This book articulates this fact very well. It does a great job at defending the wealthy elite in a society that too often condemns them. In their pursuit of success, entrepreneurs not only create wealth for themselves, but they create wealth for their investors, employees, and clients.
I highly recommend this book to anyone he wants to gain a deeper understanding of our economy and how the pursuit of wealth is good for everyone.

 Excellent Rebuttal

Finally a book which refutes the “tax the rich” rhetoric which is popular in Canada culture today. The author makes a convincing argument that “the rich” are regular people who sacrificed to achieve their wealth. It is off the backs of the poor, but providing employment. We need more Derek Bullen’s in Canada. We are a poorer nation when we tax them out of existence. They are job creators, the people who work very hard and deserve the rewards for their efforts.

Derek outlays some real facts that many would find does not suit their political affiliations. Defending wealth and wealthy people in general seems to make you a villian these days, but Derek highlights his life story so you can understand his perspective. He struggled like most people, but his perseverance won out and rewarded him. Kudos to Derek for writing this book, I hope it goes right to the top.
