The Writers

Luis-Martín Lozano is an art historian specializing in the study of different aspects of modernism in Mexican and Latin American art. He is the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship and has conducted extensive research on the work of both Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, as well as publishing widely on both artists. Lozano was formerly the director of the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, and has been a guest curator for many art institutions in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and particularly in Mexico.

Andrea Kettenmann studied art history in Göttingen and Hamburg before joining the art history department of the University of Hamburg. She has published widely on Frida Kahlo and has contributed to numerous exhibitions and catalogues. She works as a freelance art historian in Mexico City, where she has lived for many years.

Marina Vázquez Ramos is an art historian specializing in modern Mexican art. She works as a university professor, researcher, and exhibition curator, and has edited several publications in Mexico and abroad. She was deputy director general of the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City and is now director of the Mario Vázquez Raña Library’s Photography Collection and Newspaper Archive.

Gorgeous but difficult to read

This is an absolutely gorgeous book, very complete in every way. Almost too beautiful to leave on a coffee table. But there are two flaws. The size and heaviness of the book make it difficult to hold and almost impossible to read. The author deserves better because his writing is so good. I asked if Tachen could provide a pdf of just the written material and was told they could not which does not make any sense to me. The written material must be stored on a computer someplace. That being said, my wife and I love this very beautiful book. The quality is “Taschen” quality which means excellence in printing and presentation.

A total compendium about Frida

The book comes in its own box. There are so many pictures and a story about how Frida came to draw it. Like the pics on her suffering a miscarriage. Or the pics that she drew inspirations from to create a composite

It’s an amazing book about Frida and what she went through and her inspirations and her paintings.

For a Frida lover this is days and days worth of complete engrossment. Totally recommend for any art lover

What a lovely book, and a comprehensive look at Frida Kahlo’s art. It arrived in pristine condition, in a lovely box, and has a pink ribbon marker. It is worth every penny charged!

This book is fabulous. I bought this for myself for a birthday gift, quite extravagant. The book itself is in its own box; but it came in another box and a third box to protect it! My cat loved the 2 extra boxes. Great service.

Way too big!

This was a gift, so I did not open it because it comes wrapped in plastic inside a cardboard box inside an box. It is a ridiculous size. I should have had it sent directly to my friend. When I went to send it to her, it weighed 17.2 pounds and cost nearly $50.

Finest Taschen quality, wonderful to display, but too large to actually hold and read. I’m gonna have to try to find a holder or stand for it because I want to read it, not just display it.

The outer packaging of the book came slightly damaged, however the book itself (very large) came plastic wrapped and in perfect condition. This is not a coffee table book, more of a large collectible item for your library.

This is a magical book, telling the story of a tortured soul in a pictorial way, quite simply the best art book I’ve ever owned or even seen. The layout is brilliant, as you’d expect from Taschen, and the colours are perfect as far as I can remember from the originals. I thought the Taschen book on Diego Rivera with its gatefolds was amazing, but this is even better, and tells her story so well with a mixture of reproductions of paintings, letters and other artworks, and is worth every penny. It’s a book to treasure over many years, but be warned, it is a big and heavy book and you will need to find a very special place to keep it and read it..

This book is enormous and very heavy. The quality of the pictures are excellent. It’s very expensive but if your looking for a present for an isolating art gallery patron then this is it.
