Attributes of Food Safety Or Risk Intelligence and Benchmarking PDF

This book comprehensively argues for more future benchmarking between nations. Since the initial food safety benchmarking report was published in 2008, the sharing of data and protocols among nations has dramatically increased. It was intended to identify and evaluate common elements among global food safety systems. More specifically, benchmarking identifies those countries that employ comparatively best practices to assess, manage, and communicate the risks related to the safety of food and their respective food systems. The overarching intent of this benchmarking assessment, however, is to stimulate exchange and discussion on food safety performance among nations. With social media and 24 hour news, we are all aware of food scares, wherever they happen in the world. I can think of a few major food scares from the last few years and I am sure you can too. We are global food consumers, so, not only do we hear about these scares, but they affect everyone – whether people avoid eating eggs, or beef. This book was inspired by events in Canada in 2003, where food safety was centre of the news, with ‘mad cow disease,’ appearing for the first time and a listeria outbreak.

This is a fascinating look at food systems around the world, with an emphasis on Canada. Further chapters look at consumer affairs, biosecurity, food recalls, traceability and management and the future of global food safety systems. This is an in depth examination about the importance of food safety on a global scale and is a useful read for anyone involved in the industry or students. Although this is an academic book, it is not a difficult read and easy to follow, as well as very interesting and, of course, relevant to all consumers and producers.

THE BOOK
=========
Although it has some Americanisms the author writes articulately that there should be benchmarking between countries.
There was a food safety benchmarking report published in 2008, and since then there have been greater sharing of data and protocols.

This is an academic book which is a good source of information and analysis.

There’s some discussion of, for example, food safety in Europe. The food fraud, such as the horse meat scandal or eggs issues are discussed and applied with a Canadian focus. It also has fascinating titbits, like, 35% of fish may be mislabelled (species substitution-usually for a cheaper substitute.)

Overall a good, academic book on the analysis of food safety.

This is a fascinating subject if you are working in the area of microbiology or food safety. Their is often not enough practical investigation of the implications for food safety policies. Intelligence and benchmarking are an important part of risk evaluation and outbreak reduction. This volume is packed with data about international regulations. It is not a very large volume but it is produced to the highest levels of quality and that is reflected in the price. If you are involved as either an academic investigating food safety or in the business of developing policy and regulations then this is an invaluable resource.

An academic book for the specialist. The analysis is sound and thorough and presented in a brisk, no nonsense manner which means you get plenty of information in a relatively short but useful handbook. if you are involved in the arena of food safety, whether as a student or practitioner, this is well worth getting hold of.

Thorough and informative book, which gives you everything you need to pass the exam, including the mock exam papers. Also useful to keep and refer back to after your studies are over.
