A Little Too Basic
March 15, 2020
I bought this book for my niece, who is studying for the RHDS exam. She finds it good, as far as it goes. However, it’s a little too basic for her needs. I am helping her study, and I see what she means. The entire section on the skeletal system only comprises pages 89 to 115, inclusive. In addition, we didn’t like the use of humor in the book, but I think almost all of the “Dummies” books are written that way. If you’re just looking for an overview of human anatomy and physiology, however, this will probably be okay. And, if you’re a high school student, this should fill the bill as well. But for professional people, beyond the high school level, I think the book is a little light. It does contain diagrams, and it explains human anatomy and physiology in terms anyone can understand. If you stick with it, you can read it in a day easily. It wasn’t a total loss for my niece; she just needs more.

five stars

PROS: this is a great book to help review the body systems, and breaks down complicated information in very easy to understand fragments. Im glad I had this to supplement my studying for really difficult chapters.
CONS: not really a problem with the book, but a word of warning. make sure you are mostly using the text that YOUR professor wants you to study from. For example, this book says that the source of oxytocin is the posterior part of the pituitary gland. If I wrote that on my exam, I would get it wrong, because my textbook says that the source of oxytocin is the hypothalamus, and its secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. This is only a con if you don’t do your own independent studying and don’t know how your professor grades, so I still give the book five stars!

Great illustrations

This was a great book for a & p. It is broken down into systems and explains a lil better at level you can interpret better than just medical talk. If you have to take A & P this would be great to have and read before you start the course, as it gives you a brief overview of each body system. It would have been more beneficial if I had it before class started. But it’s a great quick summary of system and functions.

As simple as a subject like anatomy can be!

We are learning anatomy using your book and others, but this book has been our favorite. It’s great for my highschooler, and my 5th grade even listens in. I write questions and quiz them against their aunt and uncle, one of whom is a physical therapist and the other a personal trainer! My kids have learned so much from this course. (I would not bother with the workbook which is a companion to this book.)

Felt the need to learn something. Not in the field. Can hardly put it down. Fascinating and written interestingly and so the layperson can understand it.

My book had a long scratch along the front cover
July 30, 2019
Good book, but there was a huge scratch on the front of the cover. I was told it was new… if I would have known my book was gonna look like this, I would have just bought a used copy. Paid $20 for this when I could have gotten a used one for around $13. It’s not a big deal, just wish I would have known sooner.
