Clinical Cardiac MRI is a comprehensive textbook intended for everyone involved in magnetic resonance imaging of the heart. It is designed both as a useful guide for newcomers to the field and as an aid for those who routinely perform such studies. Clinical Cardiac MRI 2nd Edition PDF The first edition, published in 2004-5, was very well received within the cardiac imaging community, and has generally been considered the reference because of its completeness, its clarity, and the number and quality of the illustrations. Decent review book, not always for the best reason
December 6, 2019

This book is ok for review, but has frequent, distracting typos, and occasionally just plain wrong information. For instance, on page 26, in an answer explanation discussing in vitro Tc-99m RBC labelling, the book says “With the addition of implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD), the extracellular stannous ion is oxidized by the sodium hypochlorite”. Umm, no, it isn’t. You don’t need an ICD for this kind of labelling, and I’m still not certain what the author’s intent in that sentence was. In question 16 of the same chapter, there’s a confusing typo where the question stem leaves out key words. In Chapter three, two questions, numbers 5 and 13, are so confusingly worded that they are unclear, and all of the answers to question 31 are wrong. The answers to questions 36-40 rely on an outdated version of the guidelines that uses language that was consciously discarded in the most recent iteration. In chapter 4, question 1 is about an obsolete technique that isn’t used anymore. In question 8, the book says “B” is correct, but B and D are both correct, which isn’t an option. In chapter 5, question 2, the word “tract” is misspelled “track” which is a pretty common mistake to see interns or ESL students to make, but it’s still a typo. In question 3, the word “thoracic” is used instead of “thorax”. In chapter 7, question 2 the answers given are again wrong, and both B and D are correct options. In question 4, the answer is wrong, saying that cardiac uptake should be compared to “bone” uptake, when it should be compared specifically to sternal uptake. The whole of chapter 8, on appropriate use criteria, is based on an outdated version of the guidelines.

In summary, there are multiple typos, and the best use of this book for me was noticing that I had read enough to catch the mistakes. I would not use this as a primary or sole board review resource.

Good, comprehensive book. Terrible editing of correct answer choices.
December 1, 2018

The book has a lot of high yield questions with good explanations. However, the “correct answer” choices often to not correspond to the correct letter, so you have to read the explanation to know what the correct answer actually is. This is an inexcusable editing error for a question and answer book – extremely sloppy

Good board review

I went through this book right before taking the nuclear cardiology boards and found it to be good preparation. In some areas it was probably a little more in-depth than was actually needed for the exam, which I appreciated.
