Biochemistry of Lipids: Lipoproteins and Membranes, Volume Six, contains concise chapters that cover a wide spectrum of topics in the field of lipid biochemistry and cell biology. It provides an important bridge between broad-based biochemistry textbooks and more technical research publications, offering cohesive, foundational information.Biochemistry of Lipids Lipoproteins and Membranes 6th Edition PDF

It is a valuable tool for advanced graduate students and researchers who are interested in exploring lipid biology in more detail, and includes overviews of lipid biology in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, while also providing fundamental background on the subsequent descriptions of fatty acid synthesis, desaturation and elongation, and the pathways that lead the synthesis of complex phospholipids, sphingolipids, and their structural variants. Also covered are sections on how bioactive lipids are involved in cell signaling with an emphasis on disease implications and pathological consequences.

The Writers

Dr. Neale Ridgway has made his scientific mark nationally and internationally and is a noted world expert in the synthesis, transport and regulation of two of the most abundant and important lipids in the human body – cholesterol and phosphatidylcholine His revelations about the signals and pathways that control these lipids are having a profound impact on our understanding of the origins and progression of such diseases as Alzheimer’s, atherosclerosis, cancer and lipid storage disorders. His groundbreaking work is frequently cited by other scientists in the literature, a key indicator of his influence and achievements.

Dr. McLeod is a lipid researcher and studies how dietary fats are transported, broken down, stored and used in the body – and how different fats can either lead to, or prevent, chronic disease. He’s particularly interested in obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, related diseases that are skyrocketing, in spite of widespread attempts to counter the deadly trends.

Necessary for molecular biologists and biochemists. Needs improvements regarding the images.
January 10, 2020

Molecular and cellular biology of lipids is an emerging field, expanding the role of molecular biologist and biochemists in research and therapeutic target discovery. This is a very good book, describing the current knowledge regarding lipid metabolism, lipid signalling, lipid trafficking and the biochemistry and molecular biology of related enzymes. However, one can not acquire a deep understanding of chemical reactions and molecular interactions, without appropriate and sufficient images. This book certainly needs some improvements regarding the portrayal of lipid networks. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding book, suitable for molecular biologists, biochemists, biophysisists and physiologist interested in lipid biology.

Beware if you are looking to use the online version!

Despite purchasing the title new from , I had to go through email hell from the publishers online customer service to try to get online access for this title to review echo images.
Lippincott Williams and Wilkins website promptly denied access to a never used online code from the newly purchased book and insisted on answering questions in multiple emails (5 and counting and still no access!).
The book itself is good but the publisher’s claim to online access and the supplemental material is a crapshoot. YMMV.

Great for fellows. Not an unreadable textbook. Not an over-simple introductory text.

This book fills the need for a text that is neither over-simply introductory, nor a dense textbook. Useful for Cardiology Fellows.

If you like reading ebooks on your phone or tablet, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

The book is excellent, as the previous edition, but the ebook platform is just miserable. I don’t know why LWW does not retire Vitalcrap and use the Inkling expertconsult.com platform for all its books.

As a cardiology fellow, this is the best echo book I have found. It is small and concise but includes all relevant material and has all of the most up to date guidelines.

Resume bien información esencial aunque algo costoso
Reviewed in Spain on September 8, 2016

Un poco costoso pero la información es ideal porque resume muy bien la información esencial. Ademas es pequeño y se puede llevar al laboratorio de ecocardiografía para estudiar en los ratos “libres” o resolver dudas concretas.
