Mihai Nadin’s interests and career range from electrical engineering, computer science, aesthetics, semiotics, to computational design, human-computer interaction, post-industrial society, and anticipatory systems. He has advanced degrees in computer science and philosophy, logic and theory of science. An expert in digital technology, he advised institutions of higher education around the world in establishing programs in the field.
Nadin’s personal history explains his eclecticism. He was born in Nazi-occupied Romania, and raised and educated under communism. He overcame the many obstacles that communism imposes on free inquiry, obtaining a strong scientific and cultural foundation. Immigrating to the USA in 1980, he was plunged into a society both energetic and progressive, despite its ignorance of national and international culture. As head of the world’s first Computational Design Program (1994-2003, University of Wuppertal, Germany), he prepared his students for the future of ubiquitous computing. He also experienced Germany’s social capitalism.
The Civilization of Illiteracy (begun 1981, published 1996) was the result of his early experience with the USA. He discusses the pragmatic framework that led to the “illiteracy” decried by educators at the time. None recognized that it was the outcome of a necessary development leading to a world of many partial literacies. The book set forth ideas for opportunities, such as network-based interactions, in the post-literate civilization.
Are You Stupid? A Second Revolution Might Save America From Herself (begun 2008, published 2013) states that the stupidity characteristic of a post-industrial, transaction-based economy is a necessary systemic development. He adds his voice to those calling for a Constitutional Convention, and makes specific suggestions for a forward-looking Constitution for the USA.
Most important is Nadin’s current research of anticipatory systems. He is a co-founder of the field and has published breakthrough books (MIND—Anticipation and Chaos, Anticipation – The End Is Where We Start From), and a variety of scientific articles that influenced a great number of researchers.
He is currently Ashbel Smith Endowed University Professor, and Director of the Institute for Research in Anticipatory Systems, at the University of Texas at Dallas.

I love the sturdiness of the book, and thickness of the pages. My highlighters don’t bleed through! I bought this book for my Introduction to Neurology in Communication Sciences and Disorders class at Valdosta State University. It is a great reference tool. The figures, tables, and case studies are very helpful! The pictures of different anatomical structures after printed clearly, and easy to understand. It’s one of the best textbooks I’ve had so far. I would recommend this textbook to any student, professor, or COMD Related Doctor/CCC-SLP for references and general education purposes.

The cover is a mess but the inside seems to be in pretty good condition.
Did find a few sticky notes inside also.
Have to wait and see if my daughter will be able to use it.
