Good info
December 21, 2019
Bought this for a gift for my husband after he has mentioned he’d like to learn trapping and such. Since then the poor dogs and cat have fallen prey to his trap building, nothing serious though. A few of the neighborhood squirrels are wary of the yard now. Hubby built a trap to catch the neighbor snagging wood from our woodpile, neighbor doesn’t touch our wood anymore. This book was a great investment and keeps the hubby busy and the neighbors away.

Interesting history of pastimes, but not so much on modern day trapping.
January 21, 2018
This book is a great history lesson of the techniques from the pastimes. It was very informative, however for the beginning trapper like myself I felt somewhat let down by the book. It didn’t hit on very much of the modern day traps and snares. The lures recipie section was interesting, however the animals section is lacking for sure at least for my geographical world location. Trapping mountain lion, Grizzly Bear, and Tigers is not going to happen in the Southeastern US. OVERALL not a bad book, I learned a lot, just not a lot of practical information for myself.

phone book thin paper, cheap, plus I got a used book when I paid for a new one

I’ve bought two books on in my lifetime. First was a large hard cover limited print from a movie I helped fund. The cover was dinged like someone slammed it into a book shelf.
This survival trapping book has a child’s sticky hand print on the back inside cover. It also has multiple pages with tears in them like someone flipped through the pages too fast and tore some. The paper is super thin and cheap like phone book pages.
Return started. No more buying books off for me. No quality control on online store supplied things anymore. Terrible.

A HISTORICAL compilation of hunting and trapping lore
April 24, 2019
I purchased this book to round out my historical library on hunting and trapping techniques (most of which are at risk of being lost in time due to modern-day sensibilities about animal cruelty). What was interesting was to find diagrams for “primitive” traps and snares that I’ve seen on some of the better (i.e., less sensationalistic) reality television shows such as “Survivorman” or “Out of the Wild: Alaskan Wilderness.” You won’t find much on these in modern-day “wilderness survival” books, or they only mention them in passing. While it would take an awful lot of trial-and-error to recreate any of the actual traps as demonstrated in this book from the diagrams alone, there is a lot of interesting information about the best traps and lures for various species that you might need to hunt should SHTF. The information, while a compilation of old articles, has been laid out by subject in a logical, easy-to-find manner. It has piqued my interest enough, reading the voices of these old men who REALLY trapped (versus reality television contestants) that I will probably research the topic of primitive traps further (since I like to wilderness hike and might someday need to know).
I deducted a star because there were a lot of mispellings. It was hard to tell if those were in the original articles, or a gremlin introduced by the author.

it is great but would like to see more small game.

This book was great i’m fairly new to trapping so i wasn’t sure how it would go. There are simple traps for the beginner and it gets to more advanced traps for the expert. It covers all from primitive log traps to the modern day steel traps. The only problem i had with this book is that it didn’t have very much on the smaller game such as squirrels, rabbits, etc but did have a whole bunch of stuff on bear, tiger, mountain lion, etc which i would not need to trap personally.
