Features of The Game Masters Book of Random Encounter PDF

In a game packed with infinite possibilities, what are GMs to do when their players choose what they have not prepared? The Game Masters Book of Random Encounter PDF

As every GM knows, no matter how many story hooks, maps or NPCs you painstakingly create during session prep, your best-laid plans are often foiled by your players’ whims, extreme skill check successes (or critical fails) or their playful refusal to stay on task.

The Game Master’s Book of Random Encounters provides an unbeatable solution. This massive tome is divided into location categories, each of which can stand alone as a small stop as part of a larger campaign. “Taverns, Inns, Shops & Guild Halls” section includes maps for 19 unique spaces, as well as multiple encounter tables designed to help GMs fill in the sights, sounds, smells and proprietors of a given location, allowing for each location in the book to be augmented and populated on the fly while still ensuring memorable moments for all players. Each map is presented at scale on grid, enabling GMs to determine exactly where all of the characters are in relation to one another and anyone (or anything) else in the space, critical information should any combat or other movement-based action occur.

Perhaps more useful than its nearly 100 maps, the book’s one-shot generator features all the story hooks necessary for GMs to use these maps as part of an interconnected and contained adventure. Featuring eight unique campaign drivers that lead players through several of the book’s provided maps, the random tables associated with each stage in the adventure allow for nearly three million different outcomes.

The book also includes a Random NPC Generator to help you create intriguing characters your players will love (or love to hate), as well as a Party Makeup Maker for establishing connections among your PCs so you can weave together a disparate group of adventurers with just a few dice rolls.

Locations include taverns, temples, inns, animal/creature lairs, gatehouses, courts, ships, laboratories and more, with adventure hooks that run the gamut from frantic rooftop chases to deep cellar dungeon-crawls, with a total of 97 mapsmore than 150 tables andmillions of possible adventures.

No matter where your players end up, they’ll have someone or something to persuade or deceive, impress or destroy.

 Random “Woke” Encounters

October 4, 2020

Ok book of not so random encounters. Most of the content is decent but the book altogether is quite “Woke” in certain areas. If the wokeness is annoying to you, like it is to me, you’ll be fine in passing on this book. Had I known it was going to push woke ideas and ideals, although entirely optional in most places, I would have hard passed on this book. The book was obliviously geared more toward a certain group of gamers and if your not part of that group you will find much of the content in this book cringey and irritating. The Game Masters Book of Random Encounter PDF

Greater than the sum of it’s parts

A worthy addition to the Pantheon of D&D required reading list. This book contains adventures that would be worth three times the price anywhere else and adds to them NPC’s, detailed maps, helpful tips for even the greenest of DM’s, and of course tables that have become my new necessity to playing any RPG.

Jasmine Kalle’s maps are a dream (or nightmare depending on your roll of the dice) with plenty of detail and care crafted into every square.
Jeff Ashworth put a lot of heart and soul into this and it translates beautifully into each sentence and paragraph.

This is the first D&D book I bought and read from cover to cover without skipping a section to get to “the good part”. It was a fun read from start to finish. Plain and simple.

For a book of this caliber, at this price, I don’t consider it a purchase. It was a steal!

DM Wisdom
A five star book but they had to push an agenda

October 28, 2020

A steal of a deal, and packed full of fun useful encounters, charts, etc. Just saddened by the “Preferred Pronouns” table for rolling up NPCs…sure, it’s optional, as is everything…but why does this even need to be in the book? To show that you’re on the cutting edge of what ever this crap is? I guess I should understand being someone that plays in make believe worlds, anyone should be able to roll up make believe pronouns.

The bottom line is that this is bringing in politics and agendas, where I am someone that wants to get away from the madness of the modern world and play a fantasy game…now I will be reminded of that which I want to escape from every time I pass by this page.

Not sure how much more of this kind of stuff is in the book as I’ve only read about 25% of it and perused the rest…fingers crossed that there’s not much more of this type of thing in the book.

That being said, what I’ve read so far, besides the above is gold. Hopefully in the future, they don’t feel like they need to make a statement and add this and other “immersion breaking” elements to their books. If so, it will sadly preclude my support, not that it will matter…you will gain your specific audience nonetheless. The Game Masters Book of Random Encounter PDF

One of the best 3rd party D&D books I own!

September 18, 2020

So, I totally agree with the other reviews so far in that this is an amazing book! The one-shot adventures and all the maps are really well done. The random tables are a perfect addition to any new or experienced DM. The tables have the perfect blend of wackiness but without going over the line so that everything still will feel like it belongs in your campaign world.

I sat down with the Random NPC creator and came out with awesomeness in my first rolls. Without going into some of the details, I ended up with a female Half-Orc who…

Has a smell that is somewhat off-putting

Wants investors for a pyramid scheme

And secretly is trying to get over a contagious disease

Carrying 38 silver pieces and a cursed pen knife (smells like last month’s fish — guess that explains the off-putting smell!!).

Seriously, do yourself a favor and buy this book!
