Was beyond excited to get this, introduce my daughter to foods I’ve seen in games for the past 20 years. She finds the honey brittle and wants to make it. We start getting everything ready, heating up the honey and sugar. Then it says “add the water” that’s it. Provides no amount of water to add. We winged it and used 1 cup and its garbage and didnt work. There is no mention of how much water to use anywhere. There needs to be a revision

Know How to Cook and Make Bread Before Buying This.

First thing I want to say is that while I’m only giving this 3 stars, I still love the cookbook. It’s beautifully pictured, it all feels very Elder Scrolls like and it has some good recipes.

However, a lot of the ingredients can be hard to find if you don’t live in a big city with lots of options; especially with the spices. I had to turn towards the internet to find culinary lavender, savory and mace. No one in my town sells venison or goat and I have only one Asian market who sells duck (with the head attached 🤮). I’ve made a few recipes, including all the spices and most have turned out as expected. Grilled Leaks was a bust first time around because of how long it tells you to boil them. Definitely don’t boil them for as long as it says. Do it for only a minute or two and then grill them. I did it as the recipe calls for and they were soggy, chewy, onion flavored green, stringy things. Did it a second time with boiling for 1 minute and 30 seconds and it was pretty darn good. The third time I skipped boiling and just sautéed them and they were absolutely delicious and perfect. The rustic mustard is really good, but it does make more than just one cup. I love it. I use it for everything (i.e. sandwichs, burgers, corn dogs, hot dogs, brats, etc). It has a very similar taste to Dijon and I totally dig it. My brother is currently aging the Blackbriar Mead and the Honningbrew Mead so we’ll find out how that turns out in a few months. My issue with the mead is that it says you can drink the Blaclbriar Mead 2 weeks after and that is not true, we tried and I think we died.

I’ve made the Honey Lavender Bread 3 times and every time was terrible. There is way, WAY too much flour, it never cooks in the center, despite the clean toothpick, and the outside is hard as a rock – it sounds as if I’m knocking on a door. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong because I’ve followed the recipe to a T. The only thing I can think of doing is not using 4 cups of flour and switching to just one type instead of two. I’ve researched bread and how to make it and the recipe just doesn’t add up to what I’m seeing from bread makers. So there’s that.

Also, I tried the porridge and it was super watery with entirely too much vanilla. Cut the vanilla back, don’t use as much water and bam! It was amazing on the 2nd attempt. I was beyond disappointed with the first try because, for whatever reason, I was most excited to try that. I guess it’s because I’ve never had true porridge before. Mostly because grits are amazing and I hate oatmeal.

The other stuff I’ve made like the Horker Loaf, mulled wine, cider, Water of Life (you will die if you drink it), sweet rolls, and risotto was delicious.

Again, Iove this cookbook but unless you know 1000% what you’re doing then many of the recipes are bound to fail a few times. I’m just hellbent on mastering the Honey Lavender Bread.

 Beautiful Book with Wonderful Recipes

March 27, 2019

I am a HUGE Elder Scrolls fan, and I love to cook and bake so I OBVIOUSLY had to pre-order this book the moment I knew it existed a few months back!

I just received to book today and I have to say it is absolutely stunning! The cover is beautiful – I love the glossy accenting on the matte cover – and all of the pages are in vivid full color. It is making me want to fire up Skyrim again and start a new adventure, I find myself missing my Argonian husband and our little nest!

So I open this beauty and start reading through the recipes. I can’t wait to try every. Single. One! I’m literally making one of the recipes right now – Lavender and Honey Bread – and I’m so excited to taste it!

I own another of Chelsea’s books – “A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook” – so I already knew her recipes are magnificent. I knew this book wouldn’t disappoint!

There are recipes for all skill levels so I truly believe there is something for everyone!

I highly recommend this book to ALL fans, whether they cook or not!
