I bought the MP3/CD of this book, The Disaster Ready Home, along with the paperback version on pre-order from . I received the MP3/CD on December 29, 2021. I realize that the release for this book is January 4, 2022. Since I finished the MP3/CD version, I thought I might post a brief review for anyone considering buying this.
In a nutshell, I really enjoyed this book! The MP3/CD is about 4 ½ hours long and is read by the author. The sound quality is awesome… crystal clear. This book is not a homesteading tutorial, instead it focuses on basic home preparations to help face disaster. This is a book about Bugging In when disaster strikes and having the supplies, tools, and skills to face the challenge. There are four parts to the book along with an introduction and a conclusion:The Disaster Ready Home PDF
-Food
-Water
-Cooking/Boiling water
-Off-grid heat/Sanitation
The topics covered in the four parts were exhaustive. There are itemized PDF checklists to download, resource links for items suggested, work schedules for inventory and rotation, and links to videos for instruction. In the four parts mentioned, every base is covered. It is so much information, I will spend the next few months reviewing just to cover everything.
As I said, each part was extensively covered. I cannot hope to touch on everything that is offered; so, I’ll just share one thing I found very interesting from each part(s):
Introduction- Home preparation for bugging in is practical for rural, suburban, and urban residences.
Food- Sprouts can be grown (in your kitchen) for food without sunlight, soil, or fertilizer.
Water- Water can be collected from rain gutters into reservoir barrels using a simple kit.
Cooking/Boiling water- The 25-brick rocket stove and the Kelly Kettle are sound off grid cooking choices.
Off-grid heat/Sanitation- Kerosene heaters and off grid bucket (5gal.) toilets are viable options for your home in an off-grid scenario.
Conclusion- “Action is better than Perfect when Preparing”
I am very glad I bought this MP3/CD as well as the book on pre-order. Mr. Stewart really outdid himself. You really get your money’s worth. The Food and Water sections alone were worth what I paid. Mr. Stewart mentions his training website www.outdoorcore.com in the book. Many of the topics/skills/products covered in the book have corresponding instruction on his training website.
I recommend this MP3/CD and look forward to my printed copy when it arrives!

I’ve been a fan of Creek’s for years now. One of the primary reasons I like his work is because his approach is practical and down to earth. No scare tactics, no wild pronouncements of doom. Just simple approaches on how to handle things when life doesn’t cooperate.
With THE DISASTER-READY HOME, Creek shares a ton of really great information on how to be prepared to shelter in place during a crisis. The focus is on food, water, heating, and sanitation, four areas that should be of great concern to anyone planning to weather the storm, so to speak, at home if things go awry. Could be severe storms, power outages, or even job loss, the tips and techniques shared in this book are both affordable and realistic.
I really appreciated how lavishly illustrated this book is from cover to cover. Tons of color photos showing exactly what’s being discussed in the text.
Creek is an excellent writer and is able to communicate his vast knowledge easily. I can’t recommend this book enough. Well done!
Everyone needs this book! It’s Home Preparedness – Simplified

The Disaster Ready Home is a timely book where Creek demystifies home preparedness and share decades worth of practical experience in his characteristic, easy-to-understand, step-by-step style in: tips, tricks, hacks, checklists, anecdotes and systems for short and long-term home preparedness – in the event of a disaster or grid down event.
This book will serve those is rural and urban living situations. It will help the well prepared… and would be a great first “prepper” book for those just starting their preparedness journey. Even though our family is quite well prepared, my wife and I discovered gaps in our preps through this book… and are now taking steps to plug our holes.
Being the founder Ultimate Survival Tips – my “job” requires me to keep up on top instructors, authors and innovators in the survival and preparedness space. Nearly 10 years ago I picked up Creek’s – Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag. Shortly after this, I was blessed to met and interview him at a conference. Since then, Creek has appeared many times on our YouTube Channel and our podcast, The Survival Show Podcast and he has become a close friend.
I say all of this to say that I have learned over the years that Creek, practices what he preaches. He NEVER teaches a topic that he, himself has not worked through and mastered first. And you can have confidence is his masterful instruction knowing that he knows what his is talking about and that the Creek in this book is the same Creek on his TV shows, in his instructional training videos (on Outdoor Core) and the same Creek some of us are privileged enough to know as a friend. In short, Creek is a man of integrity and wisdom.
Now to wrap up things up…
In this book Creek takes his student / reader through a simple journey of sustainable preparedness by breaking down four vital categories (one of which is often forgotten): 1) Shelter / Heat. 2) Water /Storage and Purification. 3) What I call, “Food Forever” (Including) Food: Procurement, Preparation, Preservation, Storage, Growing and even raising chickens in your backyard. 4) Plus one vital long-term category most people forget – Sanitation and Hygiene.
I highly recommend The Disaster Ready Home for two types of people:
1) Those who know they are not prepared… because Creeks approach is practical, simple, affordable and will keep you from becoming frustrated.
2) I also highly recommend this book for Preppers who feel like they have their home “disaster ready” – because it is likely that you missed something… or that Creek has developed a technique, hack or system that will greatly shore up a gap you did not know you had.
