Franklin Horton lives and writes in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. He grew up an obsessive reader who dreamed of being an author since he was thirteen years old. This book is a great read! It brought out a ton of emotions. I was angry, stressed out, crying, I wanted to jump into my kindle and kick a$$. There was one scene where I had to reread it three times because I could not believe the author wrote that. How dare he cause me to be stressed out. Yeah it was that kind of book. All I can say is if a book brings out a wide range of feelings, you know it’s going to be great. Spoiler alert! Picture this…. Mad Mick, at the beach in swimming shorts playing in the water. I couldn’t either.

I didn’t like the fact the author is willing to take people’s rights from them depending on where they live. His other books are much better.

My first in the series but not my last

I have been wanting to try this series for a while, but since I was so far behind, I wasn’t sure. I went ahead and requested this book even without reading previous ones. Yes, I could tell there were things I didn’t understand, but I know this would have been hard to put in the ninth book to bring everyone up do speed. I was still pretty engaged in this book anyway. This author’s writing is very clever, and I loved the little clever sayings and inferences to movies and the like, and I’m sure there are a few inferences I missed. I did also find this a tad wordy, but that’s probably because I’m not much for history, and this did have quite a bit of history. The characters were so fun, the plot interesting, and the overall universe is intriguing. I really liked this book, and I will definitely read more going forward. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

London Detective Constable/apprentice wizard Peter Grant has been made responsible for the curriculum to prepare London’s finest to deal with the plethora of renegade wizards & monsters appearing across Britain of late. He needs to cement an alliance between the government wizards, their weapons manufacturers, the hedge-witches, & Britain’s River deities, lay a group of ghosts of WWII pilots, & capture an angel of death with a flaming spear, furious because she’s been imprisoned in a lamp for 500 years by the Spanish Inquisition. And Peter must solve this case soon, because back home his partner Beverley Brook (daughter of the River Thames) is expecting twins any minute now.
