The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) takes fans behind the scenes of the second season of the Emmy Award–winning Disney+ live-action Star Wars television series. Filled with concept art, character, vehicle, weapon, and creature designs, and interviews with key crew and creatives, including executive producer/showrunner/ writer Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King) and executive producer/ director Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels), The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) will provide readers with an exclusive look at the stunning art and design work that helped bring new and returning characters and locations to life.

Season two of The Mandalorian tracks the continuing adventures of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and the Child as they explore the far reaches of the Star Wars galaxy in an effort to return Grogu to his people and stay one step ahead of Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) Imperial remnant and squad of dark troopers. Alongside comrades from the first season, the duo encounters a cadre of new allies and forms tenuous alliances with former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), frontier marshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), fellow Mandalorians Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and Koska Reeves (Mercedes Varnado aka Sasha Banks), and fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison). In The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two), readers will encounter early visual and conceptual ideas for these new characters and their arsenal of weapons, ships, and armor, as well as the icy, lush, war-torn, and razed planets that serve as crucial stepping stones in Djarin and Grogu’s quest.

Returning for The Mandalorian season two, executive creative director Doug Chiang (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and the incomparable group of artists, designers, and dreamers known as the Lucasfilm art department “visualists” undertook the challenge of continuing to push the boundaries of Star Wars storytelling while also translating Ahsoka Tano from animation to live action and updating the look of the legendary Boba Fett. The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) is the only book to explore the artistic vision for this groundbreaking sophomore season, taking readers on a deep dive into the development of the next chapter of Din Djarin and Grogu’s story. Exclusive interviews with the filmmakers and the Lucasfilm visualists provide a running commentary on The Mandalorian’s innovative art and design, revealing the inspiration behind the look and feel of the series.

A beautiful collection of art from Season Two of The Mandalorian
February 16, 2022

This beautiful collection of art from Season Two of The Mandalorian is divided into eight main chapters (one for each episode), and a total of about 250 pages. There is a Foreword by Doug Chiang, followed by an Introduction, and then a “Who’s Who” list of people that worked on the show.

In the Foreword Doug Chiang, the Production Designer for the series and Executive Creative Director at LucusFilm, explains the four stages of the design process. He mentions some interesting details, like the use of VR headsets to walk through virtual sets before they are even built. In the Introduction there is more information about design decisions, like how to combine real and virtual sets.

Each chapter has tons of artwork from one episode; from early sketches and blueprints to sculptures and high quality artwork portraying specific scenes.

Overall I was happy with the amount of beautiful artwork and behind-the-scenes images contained in this book. It was impressive to see how much design work and planning goes into a show like this. If you are a huge Mando fan, you will probably enjoy this collection.

(I noticed some people complaining that their book was damaged, but mine was in good shape when it arrived. It was packed in a box that was almost exactly the same size as the book, so maybe that helped.)

The book itself is lovely but it not only was it not wrapped in any kind of plastic, it was also just tossed in the box with no padding. The covers are scuffed and the corners are smushed, but all the pages are ok. I’m lucky it wasnt raining!!

Fantastic collection of art and commentary
February 15, 2022

I thought it funny that the book made it all the way through the art direction, editorial, marketing, and printing process without someone saying, “shouldn’t it say ‘Season Two’ somewhere on the cover?” It looks like someone came up with the idea after the books were printed to slap a giant “SEASON TWO” sticker on the cover. Problem solved!

Other than that surprise, the book is everything you’ve come to expect from the magnificent Star Wars “Art of” books. There’s insightful commentary. There’s plenty of concepts that were unused in the show. And my personal favorite: tons of diagrams and cross-sections of locations and ships.

A welcome addition to my Star Wars art book library.

Art only. No photos
March 20, 2022

Was not impressed with this book. Art only as the title infers. But many of these books have photos too. Not the case here. Disappointed and plus the book I got has some weird sticky gooey sticking some pages together. Ended up returning it for a refund. It has not art of the background actors with no lines. Those characters are interesting too but were completely ignores. Still pretty drawings but uninteresting to me.

I got so exited when I saw they came out with a season 2 as I already had the first book. The artwork for this show is so amazing and just flipping through the pages (it just came in today) I cannot wait to go through it.

I am so excited to have this collection which includes the concept art from the credits of each episode. As soon as I saw the credits of Chapter 1 of the Mandalorian series I knew these were coming. Happy to say these did not disappoint, and exceeded all expectations.

Beautiful colors and excellent binding. Several full page and even double page spreads of our favorite characters, with plenty of details in the text throughout as well. Lots to enjoy for even the most discerning of younglings!

As good as Art of Mandalorian Season one book. A must have. Should of been wrapped better for delivery.

An awesome look inside the making of a complex show
March 21, 2022

An excellent look at all the design work that went to the second season of “The Mandalorian”. Artwork is amazing, text manages to complement the images, and it’s just fascinating to have a look inside the creative process (or processes) of such a complex show. Not much more to say, really. I really recommend it to both ‘Star Wars’ fans and film (or TV) fans in general.
