Not So Small Town

Sera is stood up on her wedding day. Her friends take her out to drown her sorrows that night and she ends up drunkenly marrying her brother’s best friend, Jace. She’d already agreed to stay with Jace for a while because she couldn’t go back to her ex-fiances place and staying with her mom or friends would apparently just be too much of a pity party. Sera and Jace then spend the book trying to see if marriage will work or if they should get an annulment.

It wasn’t a bad story but some of the details just didn’t make sense. This is billed as a small town romance set in Sin Valley, Iowa with Sera nicknamed “The Sweetheart of Sin Valley”. However, Sin Valley is more like Las Vegas Jr complete with a strip, casinos, and all night wedding chapels. Sin Valley is also home to a professional football team as well as the billion dollar corporation Sera works for. Nothing about this seems small town.
Sera’s ex, Rocky, also lives in Sin Valley yet plays for the football team based out of LA. I guess he could have a home in Sin Valley for the off season, but he seems to be living there while still playing for LA. How does that work?
There’s other illogical details, such as Sera’s dad choosing whiskey over his family but also being a physician and somehow getting away with leaving his wife and kids with no support. I know this doesn’t create any major plot holes but so much of this background nonsense was distracting.

This story had so much potential! But it ultimately failed for several reasons: (spoilers)

The emotional connection was lacking. Yep, there’s a physical connection, but you don’t build a marriage on that…

I hated the Baby Girl nicknames, and the constant “my wife” this and “my wife” that. It came across sleezy.

The conflict was so dang contrived. Jace acts like a total child

Why can’t people man up and be honest. All the tip toeing around feelings, hiding their relationship from Wyatt, etc..it was boring

Great start to a new series!

I really enjoyed Sera and Jason’s story. It was full of steam, fun and emotional. The chemistry between these two was off the charts smoldering hot. Needless to say Jason being the upstanding guy he is, he couldn’t let his best friend’s sister end up with a jerk for a husband and took matters into his own hands. Sera is crushed and he feels bad and wants to help make everything better, but moving her in, getting drunk and waking up hungover with Sera in your bed, now what? Can Jason convince her that they are meant to be? Complete opposites, but they laugh, and have fun together and everything else just falls into place. Great way to start a new series and can’t wait for what’s next.
