Exceeded all expectations

Well done Craig! This book was so much more than I could have expected. I can honestly say I enjoyed every page, and wished there was more. I loved how open Craig was about his adderall addiction, really respect that. If you’re a Bravo fan or biography fan, this book is for you.

I’ve always been a fan of Southern Charm and have loved the books other cast members have written. BUT this one is so different. I was surprised by how open and honest Craig is about his life, struggles, and success. Somehow the book is both insightful and fun to read. Couldn’t recommend it more!

I had high expectations for this book, and they were exceeded. This book is real and raw, it will make you laugh, but it will also make you cry. Craig isn’t afraid to share the highs and the lows without sugar coating things. It’s a book I will read again, and recommend to friends. Keep doing what you’re doing Craig, you have brought a smile to many people.

Fascinating read

I was drawn to this story about a smalltime mob family because we had such mobsters in the Niagara Falls-Buffalo area where I grew up in the 50s and 60s. My Czechoslovak/Polish family had no connection with them, but they knew which businesses the mob owned and shared rumors about their nefarious goings on. Now I wanted to know if the rumors were true.

The book did not disappoint. The accounts of the mobster’s activities were riveting, even though the dizzying array of their cons, schemes and manipulations was unsettling. The author seemed to have been unsettled too, as he peeled back the layers of truth. The story is well-told, impeccably researched, creates an authentic milieu, and brims with humanity, which is what I had expected after having read other books by the author.

This memoir is a deeply personal and heartfelt journey of discovery of a uniquely Italian experience. Yet in its broader historical context is the story of all immigrants who had to find a path to the American dream in a society that objected to their religion, odd names, peculiar customs, heavily accented English, and everyman’s coarse language. My family grappled with it, as did the Korean and Greek families I did business with over the years.

I found this book engrossing and highly recommend it, but have a quibble with the narrator’s use of profanities, a jarring departure from his customary erudite and nuanced voice. That said, I still enjoyed the engaging and informative writing style.
