Surprised at language and more

I enjoyed reading the Morgan Dane series and thought these would be similar. So, I downloaded two onto my e-reader. Big mistake. The writer seems to have followed some very poor advice or else is a very vulgar lady. The language is terrible; unnecessary and detailed sex scenes are included; and the villains are sadistic psychopaths. Maybe that’s what is needed to make a living. I’m through with anything by this writer now. Save your money.

This book is the second of a 3-book series. I bought all 3 books at once and have read them consecutively, but they can all be read as a stand-alone. I am just about finished with the third book, and all three books are a great read. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. All three books contain just enough mystery, intrigue, twists and turns, romance and excitement to keep the reader completely engrossed and wanting to read more. I highly recommend all three books in this series. You will not be disappointed!

We met both Hannah and Brody in book 1. She is Grant’s sister and Brody was the cop investigating the murder of Hanna and Grants brother. In this book Hannah tries to rescue a young girl, but fails. The bad guys comes after Hannah to get revenge. She tells Brody what happened and he tries to help her. It’s a romance / crime book. I really liked Hannah, she’s a little naive sometimes but she can kick ass to. Love it when a female have some backbone! But the story was a little slow at the beginning, then all the action comes in a few chapters. Some of the plot unraveled pretty easily at the end, to easy! But it is enjoyable, and has a cute ending.

I ordered all 3 of this Scarlet Falls series since I do a lot of reading. After the first one, I continued to this one only to find I enjoyed this one less. The protagonists are worse psychopaths (don’t we have enough of those in the world without perpetuating more?) and the similes used by the author were worse (so many examples: One guys arms had “more tracks than Penn Station”, “the light in his eyes dimmed faster than taillights on a car speeding away..”(after the cop sees a dead young woman who might be his daughter).., “his throat went as dry as a sandbox”… , Brody’s heart sank as if it had been filled with concrete and dumped in the Hudson”…. And several more. Many of what might have been serious, touching moments were turned into dumb comparisons. It just seemed more like a first-time author at times. I did however, read the whole book so I went up from 2 to 3 stars. If I hadn’t already purchased the 3rd book I wouldn’t have continued with it. But I did, so guess I will review that one there.

Melinda Leigh has me hooked in two different series. They are similar in many ways but different enough to be unique. They both involve a female lawyer, male detective or private investigator, murder, romance, and daily life struggles. Yet each series is distinctive. Since I do not want to give away anything about each individual book, I will tell you only that they are all written by an intelligent woman using good writing skills and having a good proof reader. I am anxious to begin book three in this series.

## Wow. Talk about fast paced. This book was hard to put down, that’s for sure. I loved both hero and heroine which is rare for me. Brody was smart, loyal, and full of integrity. He was not a manwhore, there was no arrogance, no smirking and no tons of winking which seems to be so many author’s ‘go to’ these days. Boy was THAT refreshing. And Hannah was the best kind of heroine. Super smart, caring, capable, and kind. I loved that she could be tough and fight, yet so incredibly loving. These two definitely had tremendous chemistry. My only complaint about the story was the nastiness of the two bad guys. They were disgusting. I know, I know, that’s the point but still….a little too gruesome for me.
