Sus
Poorly written book with crappy llustrations
August 28, 2018

For a buck 99 guess I shouldn’t complain but come on! Saw Lee Albert on PBS and was totally impressed by the guy, his philosophy and approach to pain. But this book shows minimal exercises, with incomplete instructions and confusing illustrations. Really?

Extreme repetition of the theory, not enough explanation of the exercises
March 28, 2018

Too much repetition of the same throughout the book and the main part that should be the exercises, not enough explanation or graphics.
In theory sounds great, but you can not practice it, you can hurt yourself because of lack of explanation. It happened to me.

This Has Helped Me a LOT!
December 6, 2019

I can’t understand the poor reviews of this book that say the illustrations aren’t good or the exercises are hard to understand!

I too saw Lee Albert on PBS and was so impressed! It made me curious enough to buy this book, read it and try the exercises. I had no problems understanding it, the exercises are easy to do and gentle, which is wonderful! I can do just a few of them and feel some relief already. Sticking to doing them 2 or 3 times a day is hard…..but that’s MY problem, not the writer’s fault! I am so thankful I saw him and got the book! It’s the only thing that’s helped my chronic neck and back issues!!! Thank you Lee Albert!!!

Book is not “user-friendly.”
September 9, 2019

This overpriced book is not designed to be useful to the buyer. One expects illustrations to show how an exercise should be done would accompany the descriptive text about the source of the pain and what one can do about it. Not so with this book. The exercise illustrations, which are not well-defined, are grouped together at the end of the book.

Gentle and effective
April 15, 2019

These exercises/stretches are gentle and painless. They let the muscles relax and begin to retrain, instead of keeping everything taut while stretching.
I am grateful to my yoga teacher for recommending these techniques, which she also uses in class.

Makes so much sense to get your posture in order to relieve pain,
August 29, 2019

Think I’m going to like this book and the exercises. Caught one of his shows on PBS. Makes sense. It’s all about posture and these exercises help you return to your original posture, so you don’t ache. Be sure to read the first 3 chapters and the last chapter before you begin to search your individual problem. Already my sciatica is less frequent.

Wish I Had Known About This Book/Author Sooner
March 13, 2020

This book was a game changer. I saw the author on a subscription drive for PBS TV. I was hopeful that what he was saying and doing was for real. It took me awhile to convince myself that it was not a scam, and told my daughter about it and she purchased it for me. It contains the same exercises that my physical therapist uses on me with the explanation of why it helps. BUT, most importantly, it also tells you which exercises/stretches NOT to do that would aggravate the already tenuous condition of your spine. These will not be the same for everyone, so he lays out for which bodily conditions it applies. To think that I thought THE PLANK was the end-all, be-all to build a strong core so that I wouldn’t have sciatica anymore – is just not true! Anyway, you have to be motivated to help yourself still, as the book can’t do those stretches for you!

Not a magic bullet but definitely a game-changer
November 19, 2021

On the surface this book seemed like it was going to be like many others in its genre – “do this one simple thing I invented and all your problems will be solved!”

However, it is a safe bet you have issues (or imbalances) in your hips, and that does logically move up the chain. I have massive cervical issues that start with uneven hips. So I was happy to see that acknowledged.

The other stretches that have helped with my neck issues weren’t new to me, but holding them for 2 minutes rather than a somewhat rushed 30 seconds made a HUGE difference for me.

Adding the suggested stretches to my day has definitely helped with my neck issues, though not solved them, but to be fair, I should take more breaks during workday spent in front of a computer. I was going to the chiropractor for cervical misalignment about twice a week, now I’m down to once or twice a month. Perhaps more importantly, I feel like I have a measure of control over my pain that I haven’t had before. When I am in pain now I don’t get all dark about it immediately, I just start doing extra sets of the stretches, knowing that will bring some measure of relief. That’s actually a big deal.

Everyone promises a simple, easy way to feel better. This delivers. You just have to do it.

Good Information In The Book But Book Is Very Repetitious
Reviewed in Canada on February 2, 2020

One criticism of this book is that the author says that many of the problems with the joints and skeleton of the body are due to muscle imbalances, where one muscle is too long and overstretched, and the opposing muscle is too short. What the author fails to discuss is how the reader can determine whether a muscle is too long or too short, which is necessary to know in terms of treatment, since short muscles are treated differently than long muscles. I was also thinking it is possible the perhaps BOTH opposing muscles could be short, or BOTH the opposing muscles could be overstretched, but the author does not discuss these cases.
A second criticism on the book is that the author does not discuss any treatment for where the ligaments on the exterior side of the shin, in the lower leg, is sore and tight. Many people have this problem and I wished the author had discussed a treatment for it.
A third criticism of the book is that is highly repetitious when it comes to the Wellness section in each chapter. Each chapter repeats almost identical information in the Wellness section. In each chapter on a particular ailment, only specific comments to each ailment should be discussed in the wellness section of that chapter, and then there should be a general chapter on the subject of Wellness. If the book were condensed in this way, the book would perhaps have half the number of pages that it currently has.

On the positive side, the book has lots of useful information in it, and if the reader finds even one piece of information that is useful in treating his particular problem, then buying the book is worth it.

A must have self-help book
Reviewed in Canada on June 13, 2021

I watched Lee Albert on PBS showing a foot stretch and talk about opposite stretching. At the time I suffered (again) from metatarsalgia and needed a cortison shot. Couldn’t get one due to covid. I followed his stretches, and low and behold my foot pain vanished. About 5 weeks ago I got muscle spasms and something locked up in my lower back. It was unbearable. Nothing worked. So last week I looked up his website and came across quad stretches which I do 4 times daily. I also received this book last Friday. I immediately did the half frog stretch since, and things are totally losening up. But the funny thing is, my good right hip/pelvis was so painful when I stretched. After three days I’m on the mend. The book is easy to read and understand, and repitition is good in my senior opinion. It will stick, like a tv commercial. Previous physio has never helped me. I have both hips replaced and have osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. His integrated approach is so simple, makes sense and very effective if you continue on a daily basis. Thank you Mr. Albert.
