The EEG is a simple and widely available neurophysiological test that, if interpreted correctly, can provide valuable insight into the functioning of the brain. However, despite its increasing usage in a range of settings, there is a common misconception that the EEG is inherently difficult to interpret. Compounding the problem is the lack of dedicated training and no standardized approach by encephalographers. This book provides a clear and concise guide to reading and interpreting EEGs in a systematic way. Presented in three sections, the first delivers foundational technical knowledge of how EEGs work, and the second concentrates on a comprehensive, stepwise approach to reading and interpreting an EEG. The third section contains examples of EEGs in common scenarios, such as seizures and post-cardiac arrest, enabling readers to correlate their findings to clinical indications. Heavily illustrated with over 200 example EEGs, this is an essential pocket guide to interpreting these tests How to read an EEG PDF Book by Neville M Jadeja PDF

An excellent foundational text for all levels

July 24, 2021

In the course of my training it has been a struggle to find an approachable text on the reading of EEGs. I am very pleased to have found an easy to use and understandable book that walks you through so much of EEG.

In the course of this text, the author covers the basics of the EEGs (from the underlying physiology to the rudimentary wave forms) though electrographic patterns of status epilepticus. The chapters are concise and well written with abundant pictures of the relevant EEG findings and pattern. Though not an EEG atlas per se, all the important patterns or variants have high quality images to reference. It was easy to use, refer to, and understand.

The book is the perfect size for a quick reference on an EEG or epilepsy rotation or elective- easily fitting within a white coat. While I feel this text would be best suited for a neurology resident or interested learner beginning their EEG journey, the quality of the text ensures it will be helpful to readers and electroencephalographers of all levels- either as a review text or an easily accessible reference. Highly recommended. How to read an EEG PDF Book by Neville M Jadeja PDF

A useful and modern guide on interpreting EEG

Reviewed in Canada on September 1, 2021

Dr. Neville Jadeja’s book, “How to Read an EEG”, is a fantastic resource on EEG use in the clinic. The book covers both the basics of EEG (history, physics, common rhythms, and artifacts) and correlates of disease. It gently guides the reader on interpreting various waveforms associated with health and disease, all while providing occasional interesting anecdotes. The book is clear and concise; particularly helpful are the abundant figures and easy-to-digest summaries at the end of each chapter. I highly recommend this book to both clinicians and researchers, whether they are students new to the topic or experienced practitioners who seek an up-to-date guidebook on interpreting EEG signals.

 Outstanding standard EEG text.

Excellent EEG book. I’ve read the first edition of this book. Explains principles of EEG interpretation very well. The book is divided into clinically relevant chapters. Easy read for an otherwise complex topic. A great resource for faculty while putting together lectures/ educational curriculum.

A great book for Emergency Department Physicians

This is book provides detailed and referenced information in an easy to read and organized format. If you are working in an ER it can save you from consulting neurology for simple things, or perhaps transferring a patients. It has a treatment pathways for things we see all the time (status, vertigo, and migraines), but it also has detailed workups for things we see only from time to time, such as wrist drop. I strongly suggest these reference books written by specialists in their field. Do not lug around a big Emergency Medicine text book. This resource is also superior to Up to Date.
