Best book ever, couldn’t put it down. I was amazed to read parts I knew all about and was there. You were right on about how it was then, those were the best times for choppers. I lived in Westminster during your early times, graduated class of 71, WHS. Bought my first chopper in 72, knew of your war with Seekers, happened on to Terry’s funeral, came in as a loner. Guess you might say I was one of the 200 you wrote about. I remember the lead Hessian wore a World War 1 German spiked helmet. When the funeral was over I followed the Hessians out, Beach Blvd was crazy with cops, I got out of the craziness at Garden Grove Blvd. A few months later I left California cause I was on Orange Counties Undercover List. I’m retired now and still riding a chopper, can’t live without it. Thanks for writing this book, a lot of great memories!!

Very enjoyable well written book.

I was not really familiar with the Hangmen MC when I purchased this book. As I started reading, I could tell I am the same age as the author and to my further surprise we both covered a lot of the same ground. I am not a “biker”, but rather a motorcycle rider (there is a difference). I have been an educator by trade but have known people in the biker world and this was one of the better books I have read written about that world. I have never been a very social type person and have been fascinated reading about the brotherhood between members of MC’s. If you have an interest at all, you should try this book

Great book about the life and times of a 1%er!

Dale is a man of many facets. He is a consumate professional, businessman, bullet maker, world class shooter, author, successful at whatever he puts his mind to. This is a side of Dale many probably would have never imagined. Being a 1%er and especially back in the days when they held their own with LE would have been a world very few could imagine living in. I literally couldn’t set the book down once I received it. Great read about a very amazing and interesting man and an really exciting time in our history! Great job Dale!!!

Terrific Read!

Wow! I cried when this book ended because I enjoyed it so much! I felt like Mr. Arenson had been a fly on the wall our life experiences were so similar. I was rather amazed we never met down the years. I married a biker with ties to the Gypsy Jokers and the Justus MCs in 1974 when I was just 19, and was an Old Lady for 25 years. I highly recommend this book if you want to know what biker life was really about back in the seventies…

This is not just about a MC or the 1%ers’ world but an honest biographical account of the author’s young adult years, his life as a Hangmen MC member but beyond that, simply being a free spirit.

The author whom you will see later in his life in multitudes of spotlights as successful aviator, businessman and many other champions. The author who ends up with amazing backgrounds and life that he decided to write about. He began with writing about his earliest adventures, which were with Hangmen but the book became bigger than his intention.

The unlikely 1% biker-turned-American Airline pilot-turned writer so deftly and effortlessly draws the reader right into the antagonist’s world on the first page. Soon you find yourself a sympathetic supporter of the passionate yet gentle-mannered, humble-hearted young biker who hangs out with the MC members at the dawn of his extraordinary journey of his life. He is an appealing personality you wouldn’t have expected of a member of a notorious MC “gang”. But why not? They are human, too, just like us who don’t ride motorcycles.

The book is an account of true stories and episodes of his experiences, divided in titled chapters. Some of them uniquely interesting tales by themselves and add depth and savor to the whole thing. The easy-to-read book is yet so rich. It’s multidimensional, entertaining, and inspiring as well as informational. Its cultural and historical value cannot be ignored, either. It can be well enjoyed by the young and the old, men and women of all walks of life.

I have never seen a humbler and more honest author of a book. It may be meant to be about a MC but really, it’s all about humanity. The humility of his words in the last line of his Acknowledgments says it all.

Hard to believe this was self-published!

For an author with no agent, editor, etc. this is one hell of an effort. An engaging biography about a lifestyle and a period in history that no longer exists, it is very well written with virtually none of the story-telling, syntax, grammar and dialog mistakes you often see with self-published memoirs. The structure of the book is to describe a long series of motorcycle trips made in the late 1960s and early 1970s. You would think that eventually that approach gets repetitive and tiresome, but it doesn’t! Every chapter has just enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested and flipping pages to see what happens next. I’ve been donating much of my lifetime book collection just to make room in the house. This one I’m keeping.
