No new WHO classification in this edition.

The cover claims new WHO classification but if you are looking for the new adenocarcinoma classification then you will be disappointed. The authors still prefer to use Old terminology of BAC etc.

No new classification added…
Reviewed in Germany on July 9, 2018

As all books of this series, this one strikes with a wide variety of great pictures, an easy histological explanation for mostly all enteties , a wide range of lookalikes, pitfalls and possible differential diagnosis including how to seperate them from each other.
BUT: the title cover claims the usage of the new WHO classification, published 2016… nevertheless, the authors mostly use the old terms of the old and outdated classification and one has to doublecheck if there might be a new therm or a new grading…

So: use this book to visually check the entitiy and use the WHO blue book to classify it.

Life In The
September 1, 2019

The author, Fernando Vilela, visited the area of the Tapajos River in Brazil, and realized children would be very interested in learning about this part of the world. The book is written for kindergartners to third grade.

It is always fascinating for children and adults to learn about our world, and how others live. In the forest in Brazil, the people live a simple life. They live on the river in a house made of sticks and wood on stilts with a grass/hay roof. They sleep in hammocks. Caua and his sister, Inae are the two young children, the author writes about. He tells us that there are two seasons, summer when it is hot and dry, and winter when it rains, torrents of rain, so much rain, the entire community has to move. They load up a boat, and take all their belongings to a new area where it is dry. Caua and Inae have an adventure, that we learn about, and you will be as surprised as I was.

Fernando Vilela is also the illustrator of the book. His sketches show us the houses along the River Tapajos, the big move, and the adventure of Caua and Inae. They depict the area, so that we have a better vision of the reality of the area, and the lives they lead. This is important so that we have a bird’s eye view of life in the . We have a better understanding of people when we see them, where they live, and how we can relate to their world.

Great art, much to learn just by looking closely. One criticism.

The pictures make this a seductive and spell-binding. True, the words don’t tell much about the life and nature. But for young readers and listeners, it’s enough and tells a simple story. No need for the words to tell what the child can see in color. Take time to discuss what the child sees.

I felt uneasy when the children disobeyed their parents’ warning about going back to their old home to get their pet tortoise. Not good sense and a threat to their lives. By this episode the author teaches that disobedience is acceptable.

Beautiful art and introduction to other cultures
September 2, 2019

I received this book as part of ‘s first reads and have never been so pleasantly surprised to write a review, until now. The illustrations are beautiful and I love how the book introduces a glimpse into life in a different part of the world. I should’ve known life like this existed, but was still so fascinated how this hot colorful world with dangerous animals could exist for children. I am so pleased to receive and share in this story and hope more children will be able to be introduced and fascinated by more stories and illustrations that open their mind to other places in the world. Thank you to the author.

An all-too-brief snapshot of life along the river
September 2, 2019

This is a really hard book to review. It’s a snapshot of life along the Tapajós with beautiful stylized illustrations. The problem is that this book is only a snapshot. There isn’t enough background, enough story, enough anything… It’s just a few brief glimpses – a paragraph or two worth of text total at the most, when it should have been so much more. The afterwords, “About the Tapajós River” and “About the Journey” add interesting information, but it’s still not enough. This subject is worthy of a complete story and it’s just not there.

This is a book that you will read to your children (or yourself) once out of interest, shrug in disappointment at its brevity, and then move on to Google more about the Tapajós. You won’t re-read it and there’s not enough meat to make this a satisfyingly full read or even a complete story. Too bad! It has real potential and what artwork there is simply amazes and the style is very fitting for the subject.

Adventure on the Tapajós River
September 1, 2019

Cauã and Inaê are brilliant little children who go to rescue their tortoise left behind in their hurry to leave their village as the rainy season starts. Rescue adventures are always fun stories to read aloud to groups of children.

Life in this village along the river is so charming and pretty.

The artwork is just astonishing. (This is one place the kindle does not always deliver.) Light and dark portray so much detail in what at first look like almost a child’s sketch. This is definitely a book to have in hardcover. I really wanted to see the details better than I could on my Kindle, computer, or iPad.

~~ Fun, educational, well-written, colorful story book set in the rainforest of Brazil! ~~

Banana porridge for breakfast! (For those who are unaware porridge is another name for oatmeal.) There are no school buses here. Instead the children go to school on a motor boat. With only two seasons, everyone knows that as soon as the rain arrives (winter), it is time to move. Alas, with all the hustle and bustle, the children (main characters) in this story forget to bring along their pet tortoise. When they discover their error, what do they do?

Whilst this is a fictional story, it is based on a REAL river and around REAL facts. At the end you will find some information on the actual area that spurred the author to write this story. I chose this as one of my First Read books. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz
