 Awful

December 26, 2018

After reading verity I thought I’d give another one of her books a try and I mean come on verity is amazing! Maybe I had high expectations but this book was even awful for low expectations. The characters were not likable, some of it was just so unrealistic to me. Sloan and luke made such dumb choices I almost feel like they deserved some of the things that happened to them for being so stupid. Oh and I undercover cop behaving that way? Can’t even be in control of his facial expressions and emotions. Give me a break. Awful book. I’m sorry I wasted my time
She’s pathetic. Asa is disgusting and over the top

This is by far the most over the top, ridicules, silly, eye roll inducing book I have ever read in my whole entire life. The main character Sloan is a young women who is “trapped” with her abusive drug dealing boyfriend Asa. Due to financial hardship Sloan relies on him, becoming his sex slave, giving into him whenever and wherever because he takes care of her, and her brother. “Thankfully” Carter enters the picture and is more then willing to save Sloan from the hands of Asa. Through the length of the pages I kept thinking why cant Sloan rent a room, and god forbid get a job? Why is she crying about needing to stay with a man when she’s not even willing to work for herself. I’m in college full time and work full time! Its hard but almost every person I go to school with works! Why would she run right into the arms of another savior?! She’s pathetic. Asa is disgusting and over the top, and Carter is hilarious in the most negative way imaginable. This book sets women back about 50 years, which is sad coming from a women author.

You can’t love away paranoid schizophrenia

November 2, 2017

Are we sure Hoover was even the one to really write this book?!? It was awful! My biggest pet peeve (spoiler alert) was the ending with the paternity test and the pregnancy plot line. Not only could you see it coming miles away but their decision to not take a paternity test was reckless and naive. Considering Asa’s family history of severe mental illness, knowing is important. Just because Luke considers himself the dad won’t change anything. You can’t love away paranoid schizophrenia. Honestly this book was a hot mess.

 Read any other Hoover book

I tried really hard to like this book and just couldn’t grasp onto a single thing that I liked about it. The characters aren’t likable and the choices they make are absolutely outlandish. So many of their actions are just straight up dumb and make no sense other than being convenient for getting the story from point A to point B. There’s no character growth, and things that should have been a bigger deal were brushed over.
There’s not enough detail where you want it, and way too much where you don’t. Nobody wants to read about someone getting raped MULTIPLE times in heavy detail. There’s even a point we’re told about it, then it does a flashback so we have to hear about it again, this time in awful, disgusting detail. Totally unnecessary. People thought Verity was bad- that book is frolicking through flowers in comparison to this one.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, especially not if you’re triggered by sexual assault, drug use, violence, or character stupidity.
