Attributes of The Marvel Comics Library Spider Man PDF

When Stan Lee first pitched the idea of Spider-Man in 1962, his boss was full of objections: People hate spiders. Teenagers aren’t lead characters; they’re sidekicks. He should be glamorous and successful, not a friendless loser. But Stan persisted and Martin Goodman let him give the unlikely hero a tryout in Amazing Fantasy, which was already slated for cancellation. With Spider-Man on the cover, No. 15 shot to the top of Marvel’s best-seller list for the year, and the rest is history. The Marvel Comics Library Spider Man PDF

Amazing Spider-Man, which debuted seven months later, broke the comics mold. Peter Parker lived in uncool Queens, was always broke, continually worried about his Aunt May, was unlucky in love, and was constantly getting yelled at by his boss, Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Spider-Man had the quips and confidence that Parker lacked, but learning to use his powers wasn’t always easy. He often seemed on the verge of defeat against the rogue’s gallery of classic foes that debuted in the first couple of years: Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, and the Green Goblin. Much of the credit for Spider-Man’s greatness goes to co-creator and artist Steve Ditko, who had a knack for portraying teenagers and their problems. His artwork infused Spider-Man with a loose-limbed energy, and, while maybe everyone was scared of spiders, Ditko made swinging through New York seem like the coolest adventure ever.

This XXL-sized collector’s dream, close in size to the original artworks, features the first 21 stories of the world’s favorite web slinger from 1962–1964. Rather than recolor the original artwork (as has been done in previous decades’ reprints of classic comics), TASCHEN has attempted to create an ideal representation of these books as they were produced at the time of publication. The most pristine pedigreed comics have been cracked open and photographed for reproduction in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company. Each page has been photographed as printed more than half a century ago, then digitally remastered using modern retouching techniques to correct problems with the era’s inexpensive, imperfect printing―as if hot off of a world-class 1960s printing press. Three different paper stocks, including an uncoated and woodfree paper, were exclusively developed for this series to simulate the feel of the original comics.

With an in-depth historical essay by Marvel editor Ralph Macchio, an introduction by uber-collector David Mandel, and original art, rare photographs, and other gems, these 698 pages of wall-crawling wonder will make anyone’s spider-sense tingle with anticipation.

A colossal book covering Amazing Fantasy, Amazing Spider-man #1-#19, and Annual #1
February 2, 2022

The book’s first 40 pages are a quick history on Spider-man’s creation and creators. From that point on, this book is all about the enormous reprints of the original 21 issues: Amazing Fantasy, Amazing Spider-man #1-#19, and Annual #1. 95% of this 700 page book are the comics themselves. At the end of the book there are about 12 pages of original ink artwork from those first issues. I love how Taschen printed on different paper stock to simulate comic book covers versus interior pages. The paper is thicker than normal comic book stock, but that’s to prevent creasing or wear and tear. I also appreciate the commitment to recreating the reprints using the highest graded CGC issues they could access. There’s added authenticity with the printing of the inside and back covers including advertising as well as the fan mail page. It feels like you got your hands on mint copies of the original books. I also like that they kept the printing imperfections from the first run, on some pages Spider-man’s blue might look purple because of printing press issues in the ‘60s. Newer reprints correct those issues, but lose the vintage quality about them. This is a limited edition first run of 5,000 copies. I’d guess that this book goes into a second and third printing after comic book fans hear about it. It’s worth every penny at $180. Even the cardboard box that it ships in is beautiful with black line art from issue #1 and #19. I’ll be keeping the book stored in that box it’s so nice.

Amazing!

This volume is perfection. Production is overall flawless. The colors and feel of the story pages are just like the original comics in appearance and texture. Like reading the original newsstand comics. The covers are brilliant and glossy, as attractive as the comics I bought and read in the 60s.

I can’t say enough about this wonderful book. Very highly recommended to fans of Steve Ditko and his amazing characters.

THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!

The book is a limited edition huge & very heavy work of art! We bought it for our son. It’s very vibrant, the paper is rich quality and it’s full of the best of comics and nostalgic comic advertisements. It’s also beautifully and carefully packaged. It’s so great, that we gave him this book 3 months before his birthday because we were so excited for him to see it! Buy it!

Great collection of classic tales.

Great book, worth the money. Only issue I had with my was the book ribbon ripped 4 pages when it was shipped and I’m not sure if it was only my copy but one of the comic issues went from page 8 to 19. As you can see in the picture above. I bought another copy to see if this one would be in better condition but it wasn’t the first printing like the one I received both but I love the book so much I kept both and put the first printing back in the box for collecting. The colors on the pages and the art are captured beautifully on this XL book.

Beautiful Book

Impressive and amazingly done: all what is promised, maintained. On the photo, you can appreciate this book compared to the Marvel Omnibus (Omnibus that is with Amazing Fantasy #15, Amazing Spider-Man from #1 to the #38, Strange Tales Annual #2 and The Fantastic Four Annual #1)

This could have been even more amazing

First out, very disappointed that Taschen went for glue binding on a £150 book and super heavy book, the binding is already looking worse for wear and I only just got it, opened it in the standard omni fashion letting the glue etc, no, large gaps of air at the top and bottom of the binding

However, to the book, it is super impressive. Lovely quality pages and display of those early classics. Not really sure it needed to be oversized though, why not just keep as original ?? It also includes the brilliant original inked pages of AF15 which is great and a whole lot more. Will re-review and update as I read it over time to see if I can see any further issues etc with it. Overall, great book but really bad about the binding (as I am not intending to sell it on, it is not the end of the world but everything else about it is so good, why ruin it with some horrible glue

What is included : Amazing Fantasy 15, Amazing Spider-Man 1- 19, Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1 along with the original inked pages of Amazing Fantasy 15

A dream comic book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 1, 2022

This is an absolutely wonderful book. It contains the first half of the original Spider Man Marvel comics series created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
They have been beautifully reprinted by Taschen in their entirety complete with their original covers, the ads, letters pages and editorial notices.
The book is unwieldy because of its size and weight, but it’s worth the effort to read it.
The publisher has gone to immense trouble to replicate the look and feel of the original comics.
In some ways, it’s even better than reading the original comics because the pages are bigger and more vibrant. And best of all, you don’t have to worry about damaging your original comics by handling them.
I have some of the comics included in this collection in their original format, but they aren’t pristine. I also have multiple copies of the various reprint versions. But none of them match the quality and experience of reading this wonderful book.
I do hope the rest of the remaining Stan Lee and Steve Ditko Spider Man stories and annuals will published in the same format soon.
I can’t wait to see how the Amazing Spider Man # 33 looks like in this format.
Enjoy the experience!

Touching Perfection

Imagine it’s the early 1960s and you’ve been buying mint copies of the issues reprinted in this volume.

Then imagine they were the deluxe versions with slightly sturdier paper stock and at twice the size (bigger, even, than your prized treasury editions).

Then imagine having them all bound into a hardback book with a satin-like linen cover, commentary from a former Marvel editor and reproductions of some of Steve Ditko’s original art (especially of the whole of the Spider-Man story from Amazing Fantasy 15).

The next very best thing to owning the original copies with the added bonus of not having to fork out millions of pounds.

Worth every penny.

Excellent on every Level

Overall quality is excellent. Paper and reproduction are crisp and clean. Photographed from original comics. Includes letter pages for each issue and house ads. covers are printed front and back on coated paper. The story pages are printed on a paper milled especially for this edition to mimic the newsprint of the time but is softer and sturdier. This is a BIG book but worth it for fans. These are the best reproductions I’ve seen since I held the original comics themselves.
