THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMESUSA TODAY BESTSELLER, & INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER! The Last Flight A Novel PDF

Look for The Lies I Tell, the next novel from Julie Clark, coming in June 2022!

The Last Flight is thoroughly absorbing—not only because of its tantalizing plot and deft pacing, but also because of its unexpected poignancy and its satisfying, if bittersweet, resolution. The characters get under your skin.”—The New York Times Book Review

Two women. Two flights. One last chance to disappear.

Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns bright and he’s not above using his staff to track Claire’s every move.

What he doesn’t know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish. A plan that takes her to the airport, poised to run from it all. But a chance meeting in the airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision.

The two women switch tickets, with Claire taking Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire realizes it’s no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva’s identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden.

For fans of Lisa Jewell and Liv Constantine, The Last Flight is the story of two women—both alone, both scared—and one agonizing decision that will change the trajectory of both of their lives.

Disputing another reviewer about “plot holes”

July 29, 2020

I loved this book. So many unexpected twists and turns which kept me in suspense the whole time. The epilogue was beautiful and bittersweet. I had to re-evaluate my belief about what happened to Eva several times throughout the book.
Spoiler Alert:
I am mainly writing this review to dispute a top review by another person on this page. That reviewer makes allegations of several “plot holes” in the book. Well, that reviewer must have not been paying attention when reading the book because several of those alleged “plot holes” do not exist. For example, the reviewer mentions a plot hole about Claire being picked up by Castro after her TV interview. That makes sense because she is still in the Bay Area. The TV interview had been conducted remotely from SF, not NYC.
Also, Claire DOES have Eva’s ID. I’m not sure why the reviewer in question thinks that she does not have it. It is mentioned several times in the book.
As for Claire and Petra finding each other at the end, that would not have been such a difficult task since Claire’s story was all over the news by that point, and no longer had to hide from Rory.
Lastly, if the reviewer in question had read till the end of the book, they would have understood whether or not Eva was actually on the plane when it crashed. There is no plot hole to be found there.
It makes me frustrated to see the top review of this book on here making accusations of plot holes, when in actuality, poor reader comprehension is to blame. I was compelled to write this review to encourage people to read the book for yourselves, all the way to the end, and see how all the plot details do fit together if you just pay attention! It is a great summer read if you like suspense combined with a strong emotional storyline.
