Thank you so much for looking at one of my books on and a very warm welcome to two gorgeous Yorkshire settings: Whitsborough Bay on the North Yorkshire coast and Hedgehog Hollow on the Yorkshire Wolds.

I write uplifting stories of love and friendship. You’ll meet some new friends who’ll raise a smile and perhaps draw a few tears. I adore my characters so, if you do find yourself reaching for the tissues, don’t worry because I promise I will never leave them without a heartwarming happy ending.

All my books work as complete standalone stories but some are part of a series and others are connected. The Welcome to Whitsborough Bay series and the Hedgehog Hollow series are best enjoyed when read in order and, if taking a trip to Castle Street at Christmas, I’d recommend Christmas at Carly’s Cupcakes before Starry Skies Over The Chocolate Pot Café.

Good book

I enjoyed this book very much. Nice characters and moved along at a good pace. However this critique I’m going to make is not just about this book, it’s about what seems to be a trend with English authors. I just finished reading quite a few books by these authors and it seems that “will you move in with me” has replaced “will you marry me” and that it’s supposed to evoke the same happy feelings. It doesn’t. Not for me anyway, I feel it cheapens the relationship and it brings a downer feeling instead of a joyful feeling. Just old fashioned I guess but I think I’ll pass on English authored books from now on if this is the new trend.

Okay, but not fond of a non-linear plotline

I love the book cover and the plot. Unfortunately, what I did not like was that it is a non-linear timeline. I personally do not like to read them and find that I do not become fully involved in the story due to the frustration of the time line continually changing. (I sometimes actually stop reading for a bit when the time changes, since I want to continue reading the time line I was interested in.) I do think some stories need to be written this way, and this book is one of those cases. I do not see the plot being unfolded any other way.

Also, due to a non-linear timeline, many characters are introduced in the first few chapters. I had to write the names and descriptions down to try to understand what was going on. I counted to 21 characters and then I stopped and just tried to read the book and let the characters go, and felt I could go back if I needed to be reminded who they were.

Due to the timeline and many characters, it was difficult for me to be absorbed into the story for many of the first chapters of the book. I estimate by half way read, I finally was at a point of enjoying where the story was leading me, and not having to focus so much on the time period or from what point of view the story was being told.

Since I struggled with the first half of the book, I am giving 3 stars. My rating is a combination of how I felt about the first half of the book (not really enjoying the read and felt it moved very slowly) and the second half (where I did care about the characters and felt the pace was much better).
