Oakstone Neurology for Non-Neurologists 2020 Download Free. The Neurology for Non-Neurologists online CME course covers the full scope of clinical neurology: commonly encountered patient complaints such as dizziness, back pain, seizures, and movement disorders, as well as special, common topics that can be mis- or underdiagnosed.

Speakers in this continuing medical education program are highly skilled with vast experience educating non-neurologists. As new neurological therapeutics become available, it can be difficult for the non-neurologist to stay abreast. It is important that these clinicians — often the first a patient consults — are familiar with the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and prognosis associated with neurological conditions.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the cause of dizziness in a patient in order to manage the condition effectively
  • Recognize sleep disorders and formulate appropriate treatments
  • Identify serious illnesses that result in back and neck pain
  • Differentiate between ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of multiple sclerosis
  • Explain the current methods of evaluating and treating seizures
  • Differentiate between primary headaches and headaches that result from systemic disorders
  • Describe the neurological complications that result from systemic cancers
  • Discuss the methods of recognizing and treating neuropathies
  • Describe distinguishing characteristics of cognitive and behavioral disorders
  • Identify the differences between hyperkinetic and hypokinetic movement disorders
  • Explain methods of treating acute and chronic pain
  • Summarize the neurological complications of vitamin deficiencies
  • Intended Audience

The activity was designed for internists, family physicians, emergency physicians, psychiatrists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, obstetricians/gynecologists (who act as primary care physicians), adolescent medicine physicians, geriatricians, resident and fellows in the above specialties and nurse practitioners and physician assistants in the above specialties.

Neurodoc
Nice concise text
November 26, 2011

I used this text for studying for the boards. It is concise and relatively comprehensive though you will need other texts as a supplement. It was the easiest way to cover a wide range of disorders in a short period of time. The writing is well done and so is the organization. I will continue to use this book as a resource.

Readable, practical

Nice book that means just what it says. An excellent first chapter on the neuro exam. A good overview of neurological diagnostics. Then a very readable review of coma, CVD, headache, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson’s, peripheral neuropathy, vertigo, behavioral neuro, AD, etc. A nice chapter on the neurotoxic effects of non-neurological drugs. And more. Complete, but as stated, not written for a neurologist. Nice.

A must have for neuro nurses

wonderful book! More than I could have hoped for. Easy to read and good information without being overly clinical like a neuro textbook tends to be.
I will keep this at my desk as a “go to” reference.

Brilliant introduction to neurology and thinking about neurological diagnosis
April 8, 2013

This book does an excellent job explaining the approach to neurological patients with helpful Q/A sections at the end of each chapter. I highly recommend it to anyone heading into their neurology clerkship even if they aren’t planning to go into neurology.
