i.am.me2 “This book was an adjunct to our required text for my epidemiology class. Although small, I found it much more useful than our main textbook. It is easy to read and explains the main concepts clearly in less than half the space. The focus (as the title would suggest) is on epidemiology for infectious disease, but it often highlights the difference between non-communicable and infectious epidemiology so you get a general overview of both.”
Steeve139 “As you may know, professor Johan is the Swedish epidemiologist who advised the Swedish government not to implement a lock-down like most other countries. And that is a good reason to buy this book.

The book is fairly dry, but understandable for non-specialists. The maths is straightforward, A-level or lower. So if you are prepared to pay £30 for a textbook on epidemiology you are sure to understand it.

What I was looking for was the smoking gun pointing to “herd immunity” being the solution, rather than mass isolation. And I never found it.

There are many differences between the UK and Sweden, but as of 24th May 2020, the number of covid deaths per million of the population was about the same. No doubt some Swedes have been self isolating, just like some Brits have been breaking our rules.

The book? If you want a textbook on epidemiology, I am sure this is as good as any. The smoking gun would have got it the fifth star……”

Petra Koenders “It’s a really great epidemiology book, specially for the infectious diseases professional. However, a significant portion of the formulas are incorrectly displayed in the kindle version of the book, making it rather difficult to use in practise.”
Ian T. Webber “Clearly written and comprehensive. A large part of the book covers basic epidemiology which would be unnecessary for epidemiologists, but maybe good for micribiologists.”
